Hello,
I recently purchased a Dell Inspiron Laptop 7506 2-in-1 (about 3 weeks ago). As soon as I turned it on, I was notified that there were updates, so I updated it (both Windows and Dell drivers updates).
Now I found out that the laptop has a sleep button that should work by pressing Fn+Insert, but it doesn't. While the sleep function in my laptop is not good anyway because it only has S0 enabled (S1, S2 and S3 are apparently not supported by the firmware) and it almost caused a fire the first time I used it (I now use hibernation), I would still like the sleep button to function because the sleep problem might be fixed in the future.
Dell was not helpful and after determining it is not a hardware problem because the result of hardware diagnostics was that everything is fine, they said it is not a warranty problem (I never said it was) and that I have to pay if I need help.
I searched for the problem and some time ago someone solved it by uninstalling and reinstalling QuickSet, but there is no QuickSet for my laptop....
Any idea what I can do? I suspect some update might have disabled it, but I don't want to revert to factory defaults, particularly considering I prefer to use hibernation anyway and if I really want, I can put the laptop to sleep in other ways, but when a laptop is new, it is still somehow annoying when something does not work.
It is probably just a corrupt registry entry or something...
Thank you for your advice.

Thank you. Mine is silver and the manual does mention Fn+insert for sleep, but there might be a mistake, I don't know. The power button does work, although currently I have it for hibernate, but it also works for sleep.

Looking at the keyboard shortcuts, it also has Fn+insert.
I wonder if S0 caused the problem. I have read that some people who could not resume Windows / wake up their laptop from S0 (this was also my case when it got really hot) could not use the keyboard any more. I can, it is only that shortcut that does not work, but who knows. Apparently S0 can cause problems. I was lucky that my new laptop didn't catch fire because it was really, really hot after S0 and would not resume. I had to disconnect the adapter, then the power button shut it down (it didn't when the adapter was connected, it was totally unresponsive). I have now changed the settings to go into hibernation after some time in sleep mode.

Could my problem be the ACPI x64-based PC driver?

The problems I have are not essential, but when a computer or laptop is new, you would like everything to function perfectly.... The problems have not been solved by a repair upgrade (although it completed successfully and quite quickly - I think it took 10-15 minutes).

1. The sleep button (Fn+insert) is not working. The Fn key is fine because it works with other keys, and the insert key is fine too, as I checked it online (on a keyboard checker page).
I have read that some people solved the problem with QuickSet, but unfortunately my laptop does not have it. Apart from people who confirmed to have solved the problem with QuickSet, I also found this page: What is Dell QuickSet and Do I Need it on Windows 10? that says QuickSet can solve Fn key problems.

Maybe I should try to uninstall and reinstall the keyboard drivers? I had the idea before, but there are 4 HID keyboard devices and 1 standard PS/2 keyboard device in device manager. Is it safe to uninstall them? Normally they should be reinstalled after rebooting.

All the other sleep options work by the way, just not Fn+insert.

2. The mysterious folder in Control Panel. It is not present in Safe Mode (I checked). Maybe this is just a remnant of something that was in Windows 10, as we said before, and cannot be eliminated in the WIndows 11 upgrade.

3. The explorer.exe error message in safe mode ("the system has detected an overrun of a stack-based buffer"). I have installed an alternative to Explorer and if I use it in safe mode, I can browse files (Explorer crashed), but the message still pops up at regular intervals (less frequently than when I only had Explorer).

Thank you!

I would wager to guess that fn+insert doesn't work because new laptops use modern sleep rather than S3 sleep. I don't have one so hopefully someone here who does can confirm if that is true.

If Dell Quickset is not listed on Dell site under drivers and downloads for your specific device(enter your service tag), then it does not apply to your laptop.

I have no further suggestions to the mysterious folder other than what was suggested by everyone in your previous thread.

Regarding the buffer overrun messages, there are suggestions HERE and HERE some which you have already tried so try the others.

No, QuickSet does not apply to my laptop. I am not sure why because many other Inspiron models are supported. Maybe because it is a 2-in-1 model, so a bit different. Or maybe a compatible version will be released later this year.
I have tried what I had not tried yet for the error message in Safe Mode, but still no luck.
I do think I need a clean install at this stage if I want everything to work.
I just need a little break because I have to finish some work, and then I will give it a go.
I also just uninstalled the McAfee trial version.

The first thing I do on anyone's new Dell. Good for you. If you uninstalled the normal way, check and I believe you will find the uninstall procedure left behind some McAfee folders. If they're empty you can delete them, but if there are still files in them use the McAfee MCPR tool to remove all traces. I just hate when a program doesn't uninstall cleanly and McAfee has a history of that.

Thanks. I actually used the MCPR for the whole uninstallation. I also have IOBIT Uninstaller (the free version, but still quite useful).
Windows seems to leave behind a lot of registry entries when uninstalling from Control Panel.
I had a problem with Acronis TrueImage the other day (I wanted to do an image backup before the Repair Upgrade), so I tried to uninstall it and it would not uninstall. I tried IOBIT and it removed all the entries and I was able to uninstall and reinstall successfully...

OK, I have just found out something... I had no idea my main drive was encrypted with Bitlocker, It's not even supposed to be in Home Editions? But I was looking at AOMEI Partition Manager and it says C is Bitlocker encrypted!
Maybe that's why the Repair Upgrade was so quick and didn't do anything.
What is the safest way to disable Bitlocker? I want to disable it and re-run the repair upgrade...
PS: I have found out how to do it, so I will, then I will re-run the repair upgrade, and then encrypt it again. Fingers crossed!

The Control Panel sends me back to Settings - Privacy and Security - Device Encryption. It is doing it right now.
I never actively encrypted it, so yesterday I didn't even think I had to decrypt it because I didn't know it was encrypted in the first place, but it is good I now noticed.

If it is encrypted, you would find the encryption key on your Microsoft account. You will need to login to microsoft online. Open settings>account> your info at the bottom of that page it says account. Manage my account. It will take you to Microsoft. There is a menu at the top of the Microsoft page. I think it is on the Devices page.

Are you on Pro? I am quite surprised that Dell would encrypt a home version of windows but I haven't bought a Dell in years. My nephew still has the Inspiron 7559 I gave him around 2013 or so. It was not encrypted.

Thanks, I will check. It was definitely encrypted, obviously be default. It is about 50% decrypted right now...
Did you manage to turn off BitLocker? I'm running the Pro version and in File Explorer if I right click on drive C I have the option to turn on Bitlocker. If I was using BitLocker I'm sure that I would have the option to turn it off.
