Do you trust UUP Dump, aka problems with print to PDF in install from UUP Dump media

Let me start by saying that I have only ever used UUP Dump twice. The most recent was to download the 24H2 Release Preview build 26100.1742.

I performed a clean install of Windows using this image and noticed immediately after setup that the print to PDF driver was missing. I went into features and found that the Print to PDF feature is actually installed. So, I tried to uninstall it and reinstall it but Windows is unable to install this feature.

Now, my questions:

1) Has anyone else tried to use the Print to PDF feature in a CLEAN INSTALL of 26100.1742?

2) For those who have used UUP Dump a lot more than I have, do you ever notice any odd issues of things not working? Do you really trust UUP Dump to create a reliable image?

NOTE: If I pull down the most recent RP build from MS (26100.1502) and then upgrade it to 1742, it works just fine. This issue seems to happen only if I do a clean install of 1742.

Never used UUP Dump and don't plan to at this late stage of my game. I checked into it once just to try to understand it and realized for me and what I do I have no need of customized ISOs. I take the route I consider to be the safest and most straightforward and just go straight to the source when an iso is available...MS.
Now you, my friend, are into all that advanced teckie scripting stuff so it should be right up your alley.

Curious: when I've installed using an ISO from UUPDump (always as an upgrade), the KB item has re-downloaded again from Windows Update after the upgrade. That, even though the version number after the upgrade was as expected. Seems strange, if not problematic.

Are you getting that, "hsehestedt"?

I'll admit I've downloaded several different ISOs from UUP Dump. Every single time there was some sort of issue.

Now, I cannot say if it was a bad download, problem with the image created, or just a bug in the OS. But, at my age I don't think I'll try anymore UUP Dump ISOs. I will stick to official MS downloads (Release Preview is as far back as I will go).

No, I can't say that I have noticed anything like that.

BTW, I have an update. It seems like the issue may NOT have been due to the UUP Dump image. So, I have multiple machines that I upgraded to build 1742. Print to PDF works on all of them. But I just took a machine and installed an earlier build on it and allowed Windows update to update it to 1742. Interestingly, Print to PDF does not work on that one.

I have a theory, but I'll have to test it tomorrow. I suspect that there is a problem with Print to PDF in build 1742 but ONLY if the driver has not been configured prior to upgrading to 1742. It looks like if it was setup prior to 1742, it will continue to work after upgrading to 1742.

It looks like I will need a third-party PDF printer driver.

Any suggestions?

1. A few days before I downloaded iso of 26100.1591.240820-2119.GE_RELEASE_SVC_PROD3_CLIENTPRO_OEMRET_X64FRE_EN-US from uupdump.net I installed this os build on hdd partition.
2. Then after windows update , os build was upgraded to build 26000.1742 in that partition.
3. I run sysprep and then created captured image of build 26100.1742(install.wim)
4. I have already made bootable usb for build 26100.1591 by your script posted in thread Installation of a fresh windows 11 24h2 stop with errors post #63 by mounting the iso of 2600.1591 .Then I added install.wim (of captured build 26000.1742) to sources folder of NTFS partition.
5. I installed Windows 11 v24H2 build 26000.1742 on another partition on hdd with sufficient free space 32 GB.(minimum)
6. I opened this thread and right click to save as pdf. I have attached screenshot and pdf file. The pdf file opens offline and online.
7. Right click pdf file to open with Notepad. Click File>Print , the same result as shown by you.
Is this what you have written in this thread?

Ramesh, I was trying to use the "Print to PDF" printer driver, not saving as a PDF from a program. But I see that you tried to do that in your second post. Notice how you have no printer showing up? Normally, by default you would see the Print to PDF as an option there, like this:

I would be curious if it shows up as already being installed in Control Panel on your machine:

I do not use printer. I have not installed any printer. I have just installed generic printer to test the print page setup.

I tried it on one system last night. I used UUPDump to install the .1391 build which subsequently updated to 1742. I was able to Print to PDF. I haven't had a chance yet to build a 1742 flash drive installer and test a clean install yet.

I started with media for revision 1150, and Print to PDF works. I let it update to 1742, and Print to PDF continues to work, but maybe it's because I had used it prior to updating, as you said.

I integrated KB5043080 (OS Build 26100.1742) into the Windows media. Print to PDF fails to show as a printing option. Same for integrating KB5041865 (OS Build 26100.1591).

Integrated KB5041571 (OS Build 26100.1457) into the Windows media. Print to PDF works.

Finally was able to test this. Built an installer flash drive using .1742 downloaded from UUPDump. Installed clean, then installed the current AMD Chipset drivers. No connection to internet yet. Pulled up Notepad, typed a few words then attempted to print. NOTHING. Nothing showing even allowing to select Print to PDF. Print to PDF is showing as installed on the "Turn Windows features on or off"
Not something I would normally check/test after a clean install. Odd either way.

Next I will connect to internet and let it update and see what happens.

Now released public ISO from MS starting with build .1742 dont have PDF Printer too, so it is bug in this build not error in UUPdump compiling image.

That is interesting. Need to look at this.

To update this I just checked my system where I installed 24H2 clean last night. But I then let it update to the latest Cumulative Update Preview which updated to .1882. And checking with Notepad it does show Microsoft print to PDF as an option. I'll have to check with another system after a clean install to see if it's there or not with .1742 before it's allowed to update.

I have the same issue when I did a in-place repair install of Beta Insiders which was about a week or two ago, I get the same version in Windows Update and it downloads, installs completely but it does not need to do the reboot stage with the installation.
