Does anyone find a touchscreen useful?

I was given a Toshiba Tecra M7-S733 laptop that was purchased in 2006. I installed Windows 10 on it. It is convertible which means I can switch between laptop and tablet mode by rotating the display. It has a touchscreen display that requires a special mechanical stylus The stylus was based on electromagnetic active digitizer technology. I tried it a few times in tablet mode but never liked it, The main problem with an old laptop like this is that it was so heavy at 6 lbs.

My first laptop with a touch screen was my System Four, a Lenovo Yoga 11e (1st gen) 2-in-1 convertible. I didn't buy it for the touch screen, I bought it to be a small and light laptop I could take anywhere, on holiday for example.

I gradually found myself using the touch screen more and more. The 2-finger touch zoom is so much easier on a screen than on a touchpad, and so is scrolling - a single flick of a finger is all I need scroll to the bottom of a long post on this forum, for example. I got so used to the convenience that I would find myself absent-mindedly trying to use touch on the screens of my non-touch laptops.

That laptop has been sold on now, it was an unsupported device for Windows 11 with a low power processor. I currently have three touch screen laptops, a Dell 3190 2-in-1, a Lenovo Yoga 11e 2-in-1 (5th gen), and a 15" Lenovo ThinkPad T580 - all are supported devices.

The 2-in-1's have Gorilla Glass screens, easy to wipe clean.

    UPDATE - 11 April 2026: due to lid hinges starting to break up this laptop has been retired from active duty. The OS with all software and files has been migrated to my System Seven in 'Other systems' to carry on as my general purpose 'main machine'.

    I've now clean installed 25H2 and used Garlin's scripts to update Secure Boot to CA 2023 and revoke the PCA 2011 certificates. It's new role is to test secure boot issues.

    Info for 2021-2026:
    fully 'Windows 11 ready' laptop. Windows 10 C: partition migrated from my old unsupported 'main machine' then upgraded to 11. A test migration ran Insider builds for 2 months. When 11 was released on 5th October 2021 it was re-imaged back to 10 and was offered the upgrade in Windows Update on 20th October. Windows Update offered the 22H2 Feature Update on 20th September 2022. It got the 23H2 Feature Update on 4th November 2023 through Windows Update, 24H2 on 3rd October 2024 through Windows Update by setting the Target Release Version for 24H2, and 25H2 on 30th September 2025 through Windows Update by setting the Target Release Version for 25H2.

    My SYSTEM FIVE is a Dell Latitude 3190 2-in-1, Pentium Silver N5030, 8GB RAM, 1TB NVMe ssd, supported device running Windows 11 Pro, plus Insider Beta, Experimental 263xx and 29xxx builds (and a few others) as a native boot .vhdx.

    My SYSTEM SIX is a Dell Latitude 5550, Core Ultra 7 165H, 64GB RAM, 1TB NVMe SSD, supported device, Windows 11 Pro, Hyper-V host machine. Updated to 25H2 on 30th September 2025.

    My SYSTEM SEVEN is a Lenovo Thinkpad T580, 1920x1080 touchscreen, Intel Core i7-8650U, 16GB RAM, 512GB NVMe SSD + 2nd 512GB NVMe SSD, a supported device for Windows 11. This is my current general purpose 'main machine'. The installed Windows 11 Home from my System One has been migrated to this machine. As its new home has an existing digital licence for Pro I've been able to upgrade the migrated OS from Home to Pro.

    My SYSTEM EIGHT is a 2-in-1 convertible Lenovo Yoga 11e (5th gen) type 20LN, Celeron N4120, 8GB RAM, 512GB NVMe ssd, a supported device for Windows 11. Currently running Windows 11 Pro, plus Insider Beta, Experimental 263xx and 29xxx builds as native boot vhdx.
On ipad, I can do ok with touch keyboard. On iphone, I'm too clumsy and make too many typing mistakes. It's why I'm not an avid texter. Gimmee my PC and all the paraphonalia that comes with it any day of the week.

I chose Yes. Touch screens are, of course, used on my iPad Pro, my iPad Mini, my Smart phone, and my car screen. I seldom use the touch screen on my computer, but it does come in handy for some things. I always have a large, fluffy, microfiber cloth close by.

not a single system, laptop or desktop, on my home network has a touch screen, none.
mobile phones are a different matter they all have touch screens
last month on my mobile phone i made 2 calls received 7 calls
i made 4 text messages and received 9 texts
and used a total of 125MB of data (updates are done over WiFi)
the phone is a Samsung Galaxy Xcover 5 released in 2021, Android 14
i purchased as new, opened but unused on eBay for £50 about 3 months ago.

i can honestly say, i dont like touch screens.

I have touch on my 11 year old HP laptop. I don't remember the last time I ever used it.

You would think that I have a touch screen, given how it's always smeared and fingerprinted. Someone in the house likes to "show" me things by pointing to them on the screen, leaving a big smudgy fingerprint or smear. I'd expect this from kids, but not a full grown adult when I ask them not to.

So no touch screens for me. It's just little ol' me with my mouse and keyboard. And a bottle of screen cleaner.

The beatings will continue until this activity stops.
