Most apps within Office 2010 will still work in any version of 11(word, excel, etc) However, Outlook 2010 does not support modern authentificaion and is considered to be a less secure app, Therefore email from any email provider that requires modern authentification will not work in Outloook 2010 ( such as @outlook.com, @hotmail.com or gmail.com) Gmail transitioned earlier this year and MS has since begun shutting down it's email in these less secure apps with full transition by the end of the year

Per MS-The following versions of Outlook Desktop do not support Modern Authentication for Outlook.com: Outlook 2007, Outlook 2010, Outlook 2013, Outlook 2016 MSI, Outlook 2019 LTSC. Any release of Outlook Desktop with a version less than 11601.10000 does not support Modern Authentication for Outlook.com.

So if you use MS or Gmail as a provider, you can forget using Outlook 2010. You would need to upgrade your MSOffice . You have other options for handling your email, though. You can use webmail, OutlooK (new) app which is included with Windows 11, Thunderbird, or any other email application that supports modern authentification.

If your email provider does not require modern authentification, then Outlook 2010 should continue to work.

Outlook 2007 is too old now for most modern mail provider authentication, you should probably look at using something newer.

If you don't use Outlook, then you can use even Office 97 as mentioned. I haven't tried to install an older version than Office 2010 in Windows 10/11, not sure if you can install it by running Setup as Administrator. However, if it is already installed in Windows 7 and you upgrade to Windows 10 and then to 11, it works fine.

You can. I installed 2007 for someone just today. Ran the setup.exe with no issues whatsoever.

Yes == although not concurrently -Office 2010 is better though -- especially if you use the 64 bit version. However for an email client as others have suggested go for something better -- Thunderbird works great on Windows and is a decent Free email client.

There is an update for Office 2010 that is supposed to make it work with Gmail and others, but it didn't work for me.

The free Outlook for Windows is a light version (aka Outlook Express, then Windows Mail, then Windows Live Mail and Mail app) of the full Microsoft Outlook. More than enough if you only want an email client.

I can confirm that Visio 2010 DOES work on Windows 11 (23H2), but it gets a little cranky looking at newer Visio files. I use it at work quite a bit and I have never seen the reason for me to upgrade, but I will have to soon to maintain compatibility with the rest of the office.

I don't like that MS has changed the file format on newer versions of Visio. Sure, they have retained backwards compatibility, but I can't load a Visio 2019 file, for example. A little frustrating, however MS does make a Visio viewer for newer files. You just can't edit.

Tell your partners instead of saving their work in Visio to use Save as and choose an older version of the format so you can open it in Visio 2010.

Also install Visio Compatibility Pack to open files from newer versions on 2010:

Outlook 2007 & 2010 can handle any email despite new authentication. You can just set an app password and configure it that way. I just did it for Outlook 2010 with a Microsoft 365 email.

Some months ago you could configure Google not to use the new authentication and allow access to less secure email clients like Outlook 2010 or earlier. But Google decided to close that "security hole", so you cannot access your Gmail from Outlook 2010. There is a Outlook 2010 compatibility patch (I don't remember how it is called) that supposedly allows you to access Gmail, but it didn't work for me, so I don't like to give you false hope. Just access you Gmail or other account from the browser (aka webmail), is not a big deal. Or use an alternative email client that supports the new authentication. I haven't seen the new interface of the Outlook for Windows app, but I bet it would be more familiar than any third-party solution.
