Does this exist.

You'd be willing to limit the front USB C port to USB 3 speeds? That wouldn't be terrible, but it'd bug me.

What would you do with the second USB 3 connector? You could connect it to a USB 2 header of the motherboard using an adapter., if you'd be happy with USB 2 speeds.

I have no personal experience with a card of either type. If it was my choice, I'd go with the first card in this thread. But you seem to have fixated on the idea that it might overtax the MB. Even though its power draw is probably less than 25W.
I'm not fixated but I'm slowly becoming so. :-)

Damn it and darn it!, it would still limit the front USB C port to USB 3 speeds, in my eureka moment I'd forgotten that, it would bug me, thanks for pointing it out. :-)

The original card would do, you are right as has others been but it means a sacrifice and I'm not there yet.

I need to step back and consider is it worth all the hassle, does a dormant front USB C port really bother me, can I simply ignore it, yes but then no.

Another crack at it, see image.

Is there a cable that will connect to it, the other end connecting to a USB C external power adapter that would power the front USB C port?

I'm not clear what you want.

Do you need a USB C port that can provide 100W, for charging a laptop? Or just a port that mainly is for data? I suppose you could wish to connect that front port to a charger and not use it for data at all. (That seems a bit weird to me.)

If it's data, you could use a USB C (male) to USB E (female) adapter to connect the front USB C port to the port in the rear I/O panel. Its charging limit will be determined by whatever the motherboard's port can handle.

(That link show adapters of both genders.)

Good question, all I shall ever want USB C front port for is to charge my phone, maybe a 10in tablet, I also want to be able to transfer data to and fro.

IN PC terms I don't know if charging such items are high or low charging items/demands.

Do you want the front Type C port to be usable for data as well as charging external devices, or not?

If you have other USB ports, maybe not.

IN PC terms I don't know if charging such items are high or low charging items/demands.
I use only dedicated external chargers, so it's not something I've paid attention to.

If you have chargers that came with your phone or tablet, they'll be marked as to the current they deliver.

For example: I have a disused Samsung tablet. Its charger is rated at 2A at 5V.

If I am not mistaken, a standard PCIe connector puts out about 75 Watts, which is more than enough to run that first card I linked.

That is unless you plan to weld metal with that USB connector. I mean really, what are you planning to charge that is going to take that much power?

I think you are worrying far too much about this. If you want to get your front panels going, that is the card to use. Keep in mind that you can connect a USB outlet bracket to the card for the extra USB3 outputs you want. The other USB3 ports can be handled by the front panel connection on the motherboard.

You are seriously overthinking this.

A PCI-E X16 slot is rated at 75W.

PCI-E X4, 25W.

The card in "jaylob4's" (and your) first post is PCI-E X4. Looks like a good choice, but I don't know how it plays within his budget. (Originally £200 for MB, CPU, and RAM).

I agree and happy to continue charging my devices this way but as I have a front USB C port I would like to use it.

On reflection when I rebuilt the PC it never occured to me of having a front USB C charging port for the reason above.

But I had purchased this USB 3 front port and it had a USB C port and a cable connector I hadn't seen before.

No issue, modern MB there will be a header to connect it to, I was wrong, not the MBs fault, it just doesn't have it and I remain pleased as punch with the MB.

But it is bugging me a little. :-)

The Type E header for a USB 3.X Type C front panel port is newish. I had an Asus Tuf X570 Gaming Plus (bought in early 2020) that lacked it. The B550 boards aren't a lot newer.

If you haven't stayed current with PC tech, I hope you're enjoying catching up. You've done well within your £200 budget (CPU+MB+RAM).

Don't put another idea in my head. :-)

It may appear that way but in reality I'm just thinking about it.

The original card linked to would do, I know it would but am trying to avoid using the PCI-E x 4 and PCI-E X16, slots although I realize one would have to be used.

Could you look at my image in post 21 and my idea in post in 22, can it be done?

Thank you, budget is slightly shot, £237 so far including extra/replacement ports/cables, ( Aliexpress has been my friend ), but did get lucky with the cost of the MB from Amazon. :-)

I'm happy.

Do you mean Posts 17 (card with Molex power socket) and 19 (adapter to Type E socket)?

Your front Type C port would be limited to USB 3. (Dunno about charging.) You'd need to find another way to connect one of the USB 3 cables. That could be done with a USB 2 to 3 adapter. I've used one of these. 614-M5FbYhL._AC_SL1500_.jpg

Are we caught in a loop, here?
No, referring to image in post 21 and my idea in post 22.

Sorry, my mistake.

I already answered that in Post 23.

The (Amazon US) link went to:

(the one on the lower right). The one on the upper left has the genders swapped. (It would allow you to plug a Type C cable into a Type E header.) Is the cable with the Type E plug long enough to reach the back of your case? If not, there are extension cables for either Type C or Type E.

Sorry about the image sizes. I didn't bother resizing them.

Is that clear?

Unfortunately not, short by about 3".

Could you post a link to the type of cable I would require?

I get caught out on image size to.

I'd probably use a USB C extension cable.

There are many out there. Here's one.

That chipset was launched in 2018. It's not ancient.

I was able to ID one B550 motherboard with a Type E header. They don't seem to be common.
