Drive in Hard Drive Dock Suddenly stopped Responding

Hello All

Was syncing files to the WD Black 4TB drive in my External hard drive dock, then suddenly it stopped writing/responding, even when unplugged and plugged back in. its kinda cool weather wise today, so don't think it overheated

Inside doesn't feel that warm to me at all, no idea why it stopped working.

Well guess syncs my other externals, and worries about that one perhaps more tomorrow if i can't get it working again tonight

If it's just one drive, that sounds like the drive. I'd probably try connecting it to a SATA connection in the computer and see how it looks there.

Ok i can do that asap here, and see what it says in that case, hopefully i have a spare sata power adapter lol in the mess of cabling inside this desktop lol.

Some cables is cable managed and some sadly isn't very well--i must get better at cable management lol

One Sata power cable i couldn't get over to Dedicated Sata SSD Drive spot when i first put that one in, but it reached the drive cage thingy fine, so i left that drive in there for now

If it is a 2.5" drive, then it probably has the SATA-to-USB adapter soldered on the PCB, you cannot just remove it from the case. Yes, WD does this obviously to pay for repair. In other brands you can just remove a faulty case and use a third-party one or connect it inside your computer. Unfortunately I had the same issue. All I could do was replace the drive under Warranty and say goodbye to any data I hadn't have backup.

Well i waited a bit and then the 3.5 inch WD black in the hard drive dock worked again just fine it appeared.

I was just updating a few updated folders on the externals, had 2 connected to usb 3.0 powered hub including hard drive dock and 1 drive plugged into front of case

I backup drive weekly to my Seagate 8tb, and make sure for really important stuff also backed up to OneDrIve.

And removed a few folders i didn't need to save any longer, as well as some files that was outdated.

The WD Black 4TB drive is a 3.5" drive.
