Solved Edge and Office 365 updates not included in Windows updates?

I have this option selected in Windows update (see picture)

yet I always seem to have to manually update Edge from within Edge. Office does update itself eventually, but not via windows update.
So my question is: do I have something misconfigured (in both of my PCs) or is this intentional (in other words it is a rather pointless switch)?

Other Microsoft products might be a bit misleading but consist of notepad, games, calculator , .NET etc.
Office has a separate update channel and application for that matter.

Seems like a missed opportunity for MS. (To add to all the others )

There are so many versions and flavors of Office, personal or corporate, that a set of dedicated channels of update is almost warranted.

That is certainly true for Office, but not for Edge. Surely that is (or they would like it to be considered) a key part of the operating system - as much as notepad or windows games, at any rate.

You are not doing anything wrong. MS is.

They set up independent update mechanisms for Edge, for all other Windows apps and for MSOffice.
It's as though they had forgotten all the hype about the benefits of a centralised update mechanism they published when they first foisted compulsory Windows updates on us when they brought out Windows 10.

You can set Edge to update automatically. There's a link to doing that in the dialog you use to make it update manually.
You can set MSOffice [2016+] to update automatically but I think that requires MSOffice to be running when you are online.
If you are logged in to an MSAccount then I understand that Windows apps update automatically.
None of these mechanisms are linked to Windows update.

Do we know if we install Edge from the MS store, it gets updated automatically?

Because I have Canary as well, I'd rather have control of the updates but the OP raises a good point.
