When I am on Reddit, and I am scrolling through posts - there are autoplay videos. These videos prior to KB5101650 would load just fine, but after KB5101650 if I scroll just a tad too quickly the entire browser freezes and eventually unfreezes. This applies to every browser including Chrome an FireFox.

I uninstalled the update KB5101650 to test, and the issue comes back after reinstalling KB5101650.

I have also updated the nvidia drivers and repeated this with no fix.

NVIDIA 610.62 (4060 MSI)

I am not entirely sure why KB5101650 would affect reddit's videos loading etc.

I disabled autoplay on reddit, but it still does not fix this random "freeze" that occurs and still so far, only on reddit.

I am inclined to believe it's a reddit issue, but I haven't seen any posts from anyone regarding this strangeness.

That definitely sounds like KB5101650 has introduced some sort of graphics or video decoding issue.

The fact it happens in Chrome and Firefox, stops when you uninstall the update, then comes back after reinstalling it is a pretty solid indication the update is the cause rather than Reddit or the browser itself.

I would try turning off hardware acceleration in one browser first and see if that stops the freezing. In Chrome, go to Settings, System, then turn off “Use graphics acceleration when available” and restart the browser.

You could also try disabling hardware accelerated GPU scheduling in Windows under Settings, System, Display, Graphics, Default graphics settings, then reboot.

If either of those fixes it, I would report it through Feedback Hub and include the update number, your RTX 4060 and NVIDIA driver version. It may be a new bug that Microsoft has not acknowledged yet.

I already tried disabling hardware acceleration, and even a full reinstall of Windows 11 25H2 after wiping the drive. As soon as KB5101650 touches the OS, it screws up the browsers so that eventually they lag when scrolling. At first I thought it was just reddit, but it turns out it affected every website.

I did further testing, and it actually affected the entire browser - but it just took longer for it to accumulate whatever bugs it was doing.

Would like to update this thread.

So with build 26200.8037, the weird stall of browsers (Chrome and Firefox, have not tested edge as I don't use it) still happens. This is getting me frustrated, however does point to KB5101650 not being the source of the browser stall issue and makes me have to go down another complete rabbit hole. Event Viewer is clean as a whistle.

NVIDIA Studio Ready drivers 561.09, 596.36 and 610.62 exhibited this behaviour.
Running tests on browserbench.org did not stall the browsers.

Can a moderator change the title of the thread to "Erratic stall / freeze with browsers, 25H2, NVIDIA 4060" so that it is more inline with the current circumstance?

I do have to wonder if the Chrome and FireFox updates that happened between July 14th and now have changed something that whatever is on my computer doesn't like.

Chrome Version 150.0.7871.187 (Official Build) (64-bit)
Firefox Version 153.0 (64-bit)

25H2 26200.8894

To unfreeze open the Task Manager > Processes > Edge > GPU Process > End.
You can wait a while > 5 min or longer it will unfreeze by itself.

I have Repaired Edge, Settings > Apps > Installed apps > Microsoft Edge > 3 dots > Modify > Repair.

The freezing is rather infrequent ~ 1 per day, but consistent, with no errors indicated. It needs a long test, but so far (5 days) seems to work.
However the 26200.8894 update was done around the same time so doubts remain. Edge updated 25 July.

It is only the Web Browser that freezes. In this case Intel iGPU.

I have tested by plugging my DP into the iGPU plug directly on the motherboard and used that. Still have the freezing issue.
So I am confused why it is affecting both the iGPU (intel) and 4060 regardless of settings?

Something in Chrome and Firefox has changed (???) or the difference between OS build 26200.6584 and 26200.8037.
Really wish I knew what to do next.

Are you running any tweaking apps?
Like Explorer Patcher, StartAllBack, etc.?

If you are, make sure you have the latest versions.

You can also run the browsers with NO extensions or add-ons.
For Firefox, go to: Help > Troubleshoot Mode

That will temporarily disable all extensions and add-ons.

You need to find what's different on your system.
I'm on 26200.8875 running FF 153.0 and have no issues like that.
I have Hardware acceleration enabled in Windows Settings and in Firefox.

I have Autoplay in FF disabled, as well as AI Controls.
I also completely removed CoPilot from Win 11... long ago.

Different how exactly? I haven't changed anything in my System. I have a step-by-step install process for fresh installs that I follow, so everything is identical.
This issue persists on Chrome and Firefox.

Never had CoPilot on my PC. Browser was always standard install (eg. autoplay enabled)

Well, try without autoplay enabled, just to test.

There are other things common to Chrome and Firefox.
The router, the modem, your ISP, your Network settings... etc.

On a side note... the following will help you finish filling in your system specs...
For example, if we knew what motherboard you have, we could check it's manual to see if anything stands out.

Well, try without autoplay enabled, just to test.

There are other things common to Chrome and Firefox.
The router, the modem, your ISP, your Network settings... etc.

Here's ten points, just for filling out your computer specs. :-)

There was an out-of-band update that addresses this issue, but mainly for DELL computers.
Might want to install this and see if it helps...

I installed this KB5121767 (in another thread) and it did not solve the issue in any way. The fact the freeze exists even in 26200.8037 after thorough inspection makes me want to choke :(

I have reinstalled the original 25H2 26200.6584 ISO build at this time to see if the freeze returns.

1. Update your Web Browsers to the latest available.
2. Update Windows 11 to the latest version. 25H2 26200.8894

That indicates it is not a driver problem.
You are wasting time on trying to analyse what Windows/Browser update or whatever caused it.

How is that a waste of time? I would prefer to have a functional computer without this freeze issue as a large part of my day involves scrolling on the browsers.

Identifying if it is caused by one of the cumulative updates or not is important to troubleshooting, if this ever gets fixed!

After 20 years of random problems being caused by bad updates, this is my solution:

This stops windows from changing things in the background, as the changes are constant and inevitably lead to something not working...
