Yes!!, I actually thought of that program, i had it years ago, it worked well, not sure why I Switched. I was surprised when I saw it was still updated by the same guy after 20 years

When you do a Clean Boot, you should Hide ALL Microsoft Services so they don't get disabled, and Disable all other Services.
If this works, you can leave it this way. Or, if you want to know. You can add one or more Services at a time until the behavior returns, then you will know the culprit.

If this still fails, try Enabling the Hidden Admin Profile. Log out as you, and login as the Administrator. If that solves it, then you know your User Profile is the issue.

Yeah most of the stuff I disabled I have left that way even though I know it was Deskscapes that was the problem, including disappearing sys tray icons and mouse lag

Yes it is. None of my computers have more than 16 GB of memory and never ran into any problems.

so not too many main application processes running .. so 51% of 16GB not bad..
did you shut down or disable some of the MS services?
Firefox for me uses the most RAM too at a little over 3GB...
YouTube and Facebook gobble up RAM.

but! its always better to have a little more RAM then to not have enough...

No. I left all Windows services as is. The only thing I did was install SAB so that I could run the Taskbar on the top.

No, all good now, although just as that problem was resolved I dropped my external hard drive a few days ago and now getting uncorrectable sector counts so thanks to my clumsiness had to just buy a new drive
