Hi guys

I have a weird problem. Built a new PC, everything worked for two days and today Facebook just stopped working while connected by Ethernet. When I unplug it, the website magically loads in seconds. I moved the PC a bit so I thought maybe I broke the cable or something but just now checked a new one and the same issue persists.

Any ideas? Its so weird, usually its the other way around and there is problems with wireless and cable is 100% OK. And here, only one website not working. Can something be blocking the loading of the website? I tried different browsers too and still the issue persists.

Appreciate any suggestions!

If the issue is just with Facebook I doubt it's a physical cable problem. If it is just Facebook, with the cable plugged in, run the windows network troubleshooter it should be able to resolve most issues.

If it's more than just Facebook, it's possible both the wired and wireless NICs may have the same metric. Windows uses metric values based on NIC properties to prioritize which network interface to use. When you have two connections to the same network and metrics this can confuse Windows on routing traffic. Basically Windows sends data packets on one NIC and tries to receive on the other which will cause what appears to be a broken network connection.

I have tried with only cable or Wifi connected as well as both and the problem did still persist. Anyways, its gone now. I have rolled back all changes such as antivirus installation, printer software installation, uninstalled all browsers, cleared cookies and browsing data, changed the cable, ports etc. Now it works fine. Only problem is I will never know what caused it :D

Thanks for your help!

Klupit: What browser were you using? I'm asking because I sometimes have weird issues accessing websites with Firefox; if I use Chrome of Edge I don't have the problem (I realize this is fodder for a new thread).

@OldMainframeGuy - Chrome and Firefox both showed the issue. Edge was fine actually.

@neemobeer - thank you. The PC is 3 days old so I did not suspect any browser data but I think it might have been this after all. Unless Avast or Brother software had problems with Chrome/Firefox.

The issue is now back after 3 days. FB loads forever and never does but in incognito loads instantly. Does anyone have any idea what the issue might be? This is a new PC, shouldnt be this way. I will not clear all browsing data every 2 days just for FB to work...
