What’s weird to me is that on a fully up to date vanilla install of 25h2, I don’t get that. That system and my rig that has sab both show what @Edwin shows.

@DennyZenny The lack of transparency effect is the same for everyone (unless using a patch). The main issue for the OP is that the dragged icon is blank (i.e. a solid white square without an app icon or thumbnail) even though their Explorer window icons are correct. Therefore, icon and thumbnail cache fixes won't help and the issue has been confirmed to occur with another account.

if that doesnt work, use nirsoft's shellexview and try disabling extensions to see if one is the root cause (hide all microsoft, then disable others one by one)

In Windows 11, default drag-and-drop moves files on the same drive but copies them to a different drive. In your testing I'm wondering if you change the drag/drop action if the result will be the same with the white box.

You can over-ride the default action holding Ctrl to copy, Shift to move, or Ctrl+Shift to create a shortcut; for more control, use right-click-drag for a context menu.

I have my drag and drop to always move.

I just checked this again today and saw no change. With the latest 25H2 updates, I still get a big opaque icon when dragging in an Explorer window or file dialog. I have to run DragDropNormalizer to make the icon translucent.
