I had Tabs in File Explorer a month ago, but at some point they disappeared. I've looked at various methods of restoring them, but nothing has worked. How do I get tabs back for Windows 11 Pro, 24H2, Build 26100.3905?

Things like looking at the options and the Internet solutions. I didn't find anything useful.

I'm actually more interested in finding out if this is a general problem with 24H2 since I had tabs prior to doing that update.

Have you tried ViveTool to re-enable tabs?

I looked at ViveTools, but the cryptic explanation didn't leave me with confidence that I could enable it with it.

If you get tabs back in clean boot, that's pointing to some software you installed being the cause. I'd first look to any third party software that alters the GUI as being the culprit.

I have a backup computer that has a fresh install of 24H2 on it, and I did a clean boot on it, still no tabs.

BUT is there the same 3rd party app on it that alters the GUI. Also I notice you are running insider release version. Open your windows insider app and do a search for the issue to see if others have the same problem. I run a virgin release version and tabs still exist in file explorer.

Did you even try a clean boot?

I'm not running an insider release, at least not voluntarily. I did try a clean boot and still no tabs. I don't have any 3rd party GUI config on the secondary machine.

I get a Tab visible by right-click of a Folder.

No typo, it's just what I got from Windows Update, no Insider, no special treatment. I have no idea why that's what I have, but that's what Microsoft gave me, this is a standard retail license.

post a screenshot of your explorer without tabs. very interested to see it as this has been impossible to achieve since 22h2 implemented them permanently with whatever update it was at the time (i forgot the kb now)
