Been using it for years. Very nice and customizable, lots of plug-ins and great sound quality and playback output options. (y) I have digital speakers so I use the WASAPI and ASIO outputs.

Hi there
I'm still using WINAMP !!!! and for video VLC works just fine too including playing DVD's ripped to iso's --- there's loads of video / audio apps that still work on W11 --just choose what works for you and that's fine

I use WINAMP mainly as the music tagger dynamically calls gracenote cddb which IMO is a far better and accurate tagger for classical music - the other audio applications often use things like freedb for music tagging which is probably fine for more rock music type of things - so it's not only the look of the GUI that might decide your choice. Of course one can also manually tag with mp3vtag (still works BTW) but if tagging can be done accurately via an online service why should I mess around doing it manually !!!

Cheers
jimbo

Been playing with the WACUP version of Winamp..., was quite glitchy on W10 but running smooth now on W11.

foobar2000 v1.6.8 beta3

  • Fixed visual glitches when scrolling lists horizontally with mouse wheel through Logitech software.
  • Improved output format negotiation with exclusive output.
  • Fixed failure to install components from store-mode (uncompressed) zip archives.
  • Improved handling of malformed FLAC files, prevented crash from too many cuesheet entries.
  • Correct reporting of AC3 channel count in MP4 files even without AC3 component installed (before it would incorrectly report stereo).
  • Allowed UTF-8 cuesheets without UTF-8 header.
  • Fixed htmlspecialchars misuse in component update list / component page link.
  • Mapped MP4 @mvn field to "movement name".
  • Prevented the same folder from being added more than once to the Media Library.
  • Properties dialog: deferred logging of user-entered field names for the dropdown list until the tags are saved, effectively preventing typos from being remembered.
  • Fixed a bug causing alt+f4 (and possibly other keyboard events) to be disregarded if mouse pointer is above specific interactive portion of a window (list controls, buttons in editboxes).
  • Improved handling of files with malformed APE tags - some files were entirely unplayable.
  • More thorough 'remove tags' for Vorbis, Opus and Musepack.
  • Fixed text truncation in ReplayGain Scanner preferences page.
  • Made possible to add attached pictures by drag and drop to relevant Properties dialgo page. (beta 3)

Sarah McLachlan, Faith No More, Duran Duran, The Fixx, Old Van Halen, Yes... Great music selections!!

I'm going to have to try foobar2000. I use Groove Music right now, but it seems to like eating resources at times.

Foobar2000 is great and with components plugins you can extend what Foobar2000 can play..
for example I use the game music components to play older videogame music files from older consoles like Genesis and SNES
and the second link is foo_psf to play PlayStation 1&2 music files in the .psf format

Yes, you are certainly into eye candy! Your setup looks fantastic. What component did you use to get the album art?

EDIT: I found the album art area.

Question: Can you group by just artist with all songs collapsed below them?

Question 2: Can you get the player to use the background theme? I can't change any of the outside, and I like black instead of gray. Just a shot in the dark here.

After poking around, I think I have answered my questions except for the system theme.

As you can see, I've got this grey player where I'd prefer black with white text. I can't find anything that will allow you to change that, but it might be I'm probably looking at the wrong components on the foobar2000 site.

Well, after jimbo reminded me of Winamp, I decided to go with that. There's a ton of free skins available for it. I just had to configure it to work with my mouse and keyboard control and select some skins I like. This is what I have currently:
