Solved Forgotten Windows 11 log on password? I have PIN.

My Windows 11 PC logs me on automatically. I need to set up a service which requires my log on information. It was a long time ago that I set up this PC and I cannot remember what password I used. I've tried using a few password that I would have normally used when setting up, but they don't appear to be working. I do have a working PIN, but that doesn't work for the Log On tab of the service properties.

Is there any way to recover my password?

There is a Program, called simply "Password Reset Tool" .

I have it, and if you were local, I'd be glad to reset that password for you,
but if you call around to your local PC shops, you should be able to find someone who could reset that for you.

It never asks for my password. The computer always asks for my PIN. I need to enter the password as part of the "log on" credentials for a Service.

That won't work for the local machine password. I'm not trying to reset a Microsoft account.

Something I just noticed... If I go to Computer Management and right click my username, I have the option of "Set Password". This leads me to believe that there is no local password for my account. If I try to apply one I get an error message: The system is not authorized for the specific account and therefore cannot complete the operation".

So, with no password, how can my user be used to start a service?

This should show you how to resolve your issue. The post references cases where someone forgets their pin and is not given an option to enter a password. The same thing still applies even if you can still logon with the PIN:

EDIT: Since you know your PIN and can logon, you should be able to modify this and simplify it.

A challenge for New Year

Please do not attempt this unless you have a full image backup. Run msconfig.exe and select diagnostic startup. Reboot. You will now be unable to boot into Windows. Recover!

So... The solution to this issue is... There is no password to remember. The machine was originally set up with a Microsoft account, so the local user account doesn't have a password. There's no way that I know of to run a Service as a someone who doesn't have a password.

There will still be a password (even that is a blank password). Did you turn off the option to logon with only Windows Hello as I instructed?
