It can't run if the destination location (drive) isn't connected. It will show an error or just sit doing nothing

This can't happen, it's a "Mirror Sync"
The Destination location is synced to be exactly like the source folder. It will not duplicate files when running a Mirror Sync, it will mimic the source folder

Yes, they are performing a one way "mirror" synchronization.

Just to clarify, a one way mirror means that you are exactly duplicating the source. So, anything that is on the source but not on the destination will be transferred to the destination. Also, any file that are present on the destination but not on the source will be deleted.

Put simply, the end result is that the destination will end up having EXACTLY the same contents as the source, nothing more and nothing less.

Note: It is important to note that that this is a one way mirror. Make sure you do not accidentally select a two-way mirror.

As you’re not using “RealTimeSync” for real time automatic monitoring/syncing, the job you save will be a manual execution.
You will need to double click on the job or add it to your taskbar (for single click) for it to run.
Meaning; You wouldn’t run it unless you knew your destination drive was connected.
