It's totally optional. A "copilot PC" is a regular PC with Copilot pre-installed along with Windows, Edge, and so on. The user is still in charge of his hardware and software, of course. "AI" is almost completely marketing fluff these days. It's 100% optional everywhere, as any search engine should certainly be. I doubt Microsoft will ever try to make out that it's "merged with the OS at a fundamentally deep level that prohibits its removal" as they got their chops busted when they tried to do that with their old Internet Explorer browser...

That's why the EU has regulated them on these things. All through the years when I had IE installed under Windows, it never once interfered with me installing any other browser I wanted, like Netscape, although the regulators here and in the EU tried to make out that it did. I tested that thoroughly, myself, just to satisfy myself that Microsoft wasn't being truthful about that. But today, I think the company is super-reluctant to try and pull that sort of thing again.

I don't know what a "Copilot PC" is.

A "Copilot +" PC requires an NPU (neural processing unit" that meets performance requirements. Whether any software uses an NPU to serious effect today, I don't know.

Woo hoo! Glad that worked for you. I had initially gone a web search for the enablement package and found the same one you used. I'm not sure, but it is possible that one is for use if you were already on an insider build. I would have to double-check that. But it also did not work for me. Later the same day I saw the info from Brink showing the other KB as the enablement package. Just like you, it worked when I used it

Well, we know that Microsoft is posting ISO images this week so I'm hoping that also means the official non-preview release although it's possible that we may not get that quite yet. I'm really rather hoping that tomorrow might be the day where they flip the switch and turn on all the goodies, hopefully without another SSD destroying flaw

I used the enablement msu listed in the first post. About a minute later and a reboot, 25H2 is now shown as the OS version.

Will going to 25H2 mitigate the SSD update that's breaking SSD's. My main SSD with my OS is affected by the last update.

No. Microsoft is not even acknowledging that Windows has a problem with this so there certainly is no fix yet at this time. In addition, Windows 112 24H2 is the same exact thing as 25H2 now minus the enablement of the new features via the enablement package.

Next time I boot my PC. I'm going to uninstall that problematic KB update. And pause updates. I was hoping an OOB fix would come out today.

NPUs - Neural Processing Units - are auxilliary processing units mostly based on GPU technology - NVidia was first out of the gate - based on the GeForce technology from their GPUs. However. both AMD and Intel have followed suit based on their respective GPUs - Intel and AMD have deployed NPU technology on the CPU - as low as the Pentium-N in Intel's case - which is why Pentium-N is in laptops - which can be Copilot PCs. (I own such a laptop personally - and - quite honestly - did not expect it to qualify as a Copilot PC in any sense. Yet it does. Low end - but there.) ARM did the same thing - for the same reason Intel did with Pentium-N - and Pentium DC and G3258 before that - however - where ARM was a follower in that aspect- unlike AMD or Intel - which initially designed for desktops, ARM was designed as an energy sipper from the get-go.

Oddly enough, having an nVidia RTX GPU (at least, one intended to drive a display) doesn't qualify a PC for Copilot +.

But the display GPUs are now a small percentage of their market. They've shifted a lot since the TNT2 (my first nVidia GPU).

Copilot and Copilot+ features have different requirements.

Pentium-N is in laptops

I couldn't find any such CPU you mentioned to support Copilot+. You probably are missing a lot of AI features without good enough NPU, unless Microsoft accidentally kept everything enabled.

nVidia RTX GPU doesn't qualify a PC for Copilot+.

Maybe because GPU consumes more resources and power than dedicated NPU and maybe there's still a lot of users who prefer buying or building computer that doesn't include NPU.

Long ago there was a way to force enable all AI features, no clue if still possible.

The Copilot+ requirement is an NPU capable of 40 MIPS or more. An NPU with less than that qualifies the PC as an AI PC, some AI functions are available, but not the full Copilot+ set (eg Recall).

RTM 24H2 on an AI PC can use Studio Effects, for example.
