Windows 11 Pro 23H2 (OS Build 22631.4169) Desktop (OS Build 22621.4317)
I have got my old Ivy Bridge running Windows 11 Pro on version 22H2 and running Windows update is telling me that 22H2 has come to end of life. Now I am just wondering how I get the updates for 23H2 and indeed if I need to do that at all because I only use the machine as usual for general browsing banking etc. My only concern really is to keep this machine going for as long as I can and just get 23H2 if only to keep security up to date (I am running ESET Ultimate software but is that going to be enough?) .
I do have an old Asus ROG laptop that I installed Windows 11 Pro on using Rufus and it's version is 24H2 so using old hardware I am assuming that my Ivy desktop build should be able to run at least 23H2 if not ?24H2.

22H2 and 23H2 share a common set of system files, the only difference between 23H2 and 22H2 is that the dormant 23H2 features already in the system files have been turned on by a small enablement package. This package installs like a CU, it doesn't even check the hardware so no workarounds are needed. Just install it and you'll be on 23H2. Get the enablement package here:

fully 'Windows 11 ready' laptop. Windows 10 C: partition migrated from my old unsupported 'main machine' then upgraded to 11. A test migration ran Insider builds for 2 months. When 11 was released on 5th October 2021 it was re-imaged back to 10 and was offered the upgrade in Windows Update on 20th October. Windows Update offered the 22H2 Feature Update on 20th September 2022. It got the 23H2 Feature Update on 4th November 2023 through Windows Update, 24H2 on 3rd October 2024 through Windows Update by setting the Target Release Version for 24H2, and 25H2 on 30th September 2025 through Windows Update by setting the Target Release Version for 25H2.

UPDATE - 11 April 2026: due to mechanical deterioration this PC has been retired from active duty. The OS with all software and files has been migrated to my System Seven in 'Other systems' to carry on as my general purpose 'main machine'.

Jeez thanks Bree the best as always I will do that as I wasn't really keen on installing again as I wouldn't know if the 24H2 would not work on my Ivy Bridge even though the Asus laptop is working well with 24H2.

Your Intel i5-3750K ? That's a 3rd gen i5. 24H2 will run on Intel 1st gen or higher, I have 24H2 on my System Two with its 1st gen i5.

my Asus laptop runs 24H2 fine.

  1. sometimes, freezing up when heavy loading.
  2. HDMI output has an audio issue.

If NOT specific task, I think 24H2 is ok for old Asus laptop (internet surfing, banking, , ,).
However, I have some programs NOT good to run on 24H2. either slow, or wouldn't/incompatible.

Ok well I did check that one out about the cPU but I would still rather get 23H2 than 24H2 so i am going to get that enhancement package going when I get the chance..
