This dumb feature is in my Start menu All apps list, but has no uninstall option there, and it's not in the Apps & Features list in Settings, or in the Programs & Features list in Control Panel. Is there a way to wipe it from the Start list?

I've tried the W10 Power Shell and Command Prompt methods, and they don't seem to work at all on this W11 annoyance.

I got badly bitten by IObit Uninstaller recently, so I'm leery of uninstallers for the moment, but supposing I try it, what would I tell it to uninstall, since Get Started is not listed anywhere as installed.

Selecting App Settings by right clicking the icon shows that it has something to do with the Windows Feature Experience Pack.

Thanks for taking the time to check that for me. I thought as much.
@Winuser
Yeah, I saw that, too, but I had no idea what it meant or what the relationship was. I even went through most of the Getting Started thing, but found out no clues. Thanks.

so it is definitely tied in with the service experience pack (or whatever it is called lol). uninstalled that through powershell on a junk pc... DO NOT do that haha. restores old taskbar and explorer but also bricks the start menu... i think its a safer bet to figure out how to just hide/remove the shortcut from the start menu..

Oh, man, I agree. But I've tried and tried to find a way to dump all (or any) of the useless things that show up in the All apps list and are NOT in either of the Start Menu\Programs folders. Nobody has shown me anything that works so far.

yeah it wont be a normal shortcut located at appdata or programdata start menu locations. you will most likely have to use a customizer of some sort to remove it. you could try start11 or startisback and see if you can remove it via customization in those...

I hope you'll forgive me for just saying that I really dislike having to resort to third-party software to repair or replace things that I don't want or like in MS Windows versions. Just saying.

I've been cropping and trimming Windows versions (i.e., cutting the junk) to suit myself since Windows 3.1, and I actually enjoy the challenge. Annoyances are annoyances, and it would be great to find a way to get rid of them.

Yeah, I know: there's somebody out there who actually LOVES "Get Started" and uses it at least once a week. It's not junk to her/him.

I don't love it, don't hate it, never used it, and was unaware of its existence before seeing this thread. Quite content to let it rest quietly there. I have long ago stopped worrying about the space taken up by all the apps and features that I do not use. Space is no longer the premium that it used to be, but I understand your motivation.

If you open Task Manager, and then start that app- Get Started...it will be listed under apps running as Get Started. If you right click on it, you can find where the file is. That might give a hint how to uninstall it. Just an idea.

May I ask why you are stripping Windows features from the OS? I can understand not using them, but going through the lengths of uninstalling... I'm just curious as to why?

Why install a new OS and strip it away? Just curious?

@barman58

I used explorer.exe shell:::{4234d49b-0245-4df3-B780-3893943456e1} to have a look, and found it interesting that all of the shortcuts I've pinned to Start are in there as well. And yes, Get Started is there, but I don't care about it enough to use Take Ownership (I don't have that installed in my 11 context menus, as I do in my 10 menus, thanks to Brink's tutorial on it) or fiddle the Permissions just to delete it. It's no big deal, of course. I was just exploring the question of whether it could be removed, and if so, how, exactly. It's all part of the very important process we all go through with a new OS: learning as much as we can about its inner workings and hidden mechanisms, and then modifying the system in small and large ways to make it our own personal version of Windows.

The OS we all use is a very personal thing, unless you're the one charged with maintaining a system that you have not setup.

If you are managing / maintaining a dozen, a hundred, a thousand, or more systems every time a change, even a minor change, is made it complicates your task. (my limit was 7000+ seats, a number of servers, and spread across more than one continent)

I customise my own PCs but if things go wrong I know what I did and can fix it.

I have customised business systems to suit the needs of the business - but every change was logged and tested before the systems were locked down so that the users were limited in the amount of additional work for maintenance any one of them could cause.

These, business' are the people who make money for Microsoft, so it's no surprise to me that the ability for customisation is being reduced - it's great for us as an individual, but we do not, on the whole pay much if anything to Microsoft for the OS we use and customisation is a money drain for those who make money for microsoft
