Yes, technically that's true. but sync was not forced. Users still had to choose whether to sync folders.

Things started to go wrong with Windows back in 2014.. it was then things changed at Microsoft.. I think it was that year Bill Gates step down.

There is nothing really wrong with Windows. Just look at Windows 2024 Enterprise LTSC and IoT LTSC.. it is stable windows versions that isn't over bloated.. no experimental updates that breaks the system etc..... why.. Its made for Businesses ONLY.. and they dont want to make Businesses upset with shoveling the same crap on them as they do on home/pro users.

As far i know.. Onedrive is an opt in on them.. so are bitlocker.. The telemetry is really restricted on them... the list is long.

So the problem isn't Windows, the problem is Microsoft

Very configurable.

To me, the problems started when they had the server folks stop working on code for the client, totally separating the two Windows. The adults left the room.

Because Micrososft know that those versions are more likely to be in the hands of the more technically savvy or tech professional, who will be aware of these pitfalls

That's why they leave it in/on the off-the-shelf versions to trap the unsuspecting

It's called marketing .. Look at our wonderful product, all you can ask for ... email (Outlook), security (Bitlocker) and storage (OneDrive)

All the stuff that forums like this thrive on

yeah... it seems to be a bunch of idiots running the consumer side.

The telemetry is kind of scary.. i know some in here dont want to believe it.. but all telemetry they get is not anonymized.. they know exactly from what device it's coming from. They can see time and date on what website you have visit etc.etc..
I know someone will soon say i making it up... But just google on a hacker (Estonian/American citizen) that got caught just a few weeks ago. Microsoft traced him with the GDID (Global Device Identifier) and they could see what websites he had been on at specific date and time.

Now this was a criminal, so i am glad he got caught.. But Microsoft just revealed what data they collect.
But i have already said this in this forum and i made a long thread over at tenforums about how privacy invaded windows 10/11 home/pro is.
This is why i never-ever will touch win10/11 home/pro even with a ten foot pole.
So i use IoT and then i kill the rest of invading functions. that is the only way to use windows since win7/8.1 went EOL

the main issue is... you should not spend more time turning off stuff and uninstall stuff then you spend time installing what you really want.. home/pro is just overbloated unstable spyware. *LOL*
sorry i couldn't resist, i just hate win10/11 home/pro editions.

Edit, to be fare, i hate Ubuntu too for its snap hysteria and some... so go for Android and Apple to.. so as my signature says... I'm total neutral and impartial in my OS haterage. *LOL*
So as my post higher up.. Its nothing wrong with Windows. The problem is Microsoft.. the nice to use LTSC editions shows just this
