Didn't they made a new restriction.. all non US people couldn't use it.. so even those that worked at Anthropic with a foreign passport could even use it.
We in EU hast started to work hard to become independent from US tech as US market have become wayyyyyy to unstable with the last US administration.
Its like walking in a minefield and that just dont work when. Just yesterday Trump threaten EU on the tech side as Google got fined for breaking EU regulation, so Trump is therefore gonging to punish EU... Does Trump own Google as he is taking a fine that personal... its a darn joke over there.

I've used Windows 11 Pro for close to five years and it's been solid and problem free for me. Interactive Brokers Trader Workstation runs totally reliably. I use Visual Studio 2026 with no problems. For my photography Adobe Photoshop and Lightroom run beautifully. I keep all my data and photos in OneDrive, and my two computers, two iPads, and Smart Phone stay in perfect real-time sync with my terabyte of cloud OneDrive. I honestly have no complaints using Windows 11.

I haven't had too many 'problems' with W11, per se..., lots of disappointments though!
I, for one, cannot tolerate the W11 native Explorer Shell/App, whatever it's called!
I find it an extremely limited, non-flexible, dysfunctional piece of crap! Start Menu and Taskbar included!

But... if Microsoft would revive Windows 7 and make it as secure as windows 11.. i would switch to windows in two seconds as my main system... and i really mean it, as i actually dont really like Linux as a desktop OS.. server OS yes.. Desktop no

My philosophy is.. give the user a bare-boned OS and let the user install the software that person needs. Then let the person chose when to install updates.

So you saying you using 11 and are happy, but wouldn't win11 be even better if it was like it is UI feeling but as like win2000/XP/vista/7 a pure OS and you installed what you needed and then got a even smoother experience as you had less things using system resources?

After I configured Windows Explorer, I really like it. You will notice that it's set up for OneDrive functionality.

Now for the Taskbar. For years I've used the hidden option for the Taskbar. I don't want it using up valuable screen space. If I need the Menu/Taskbar I simply tap the Windows Key. Even at that, I have little use for the Taskbar. I simply type the first letter or two of what I want and it's instantly there without having to fiddle with a Taskbar.

You and I have previously chatted at length about how differently we use Windows.

I suppose that is why I still have Win 7U on my main. IMO the last real OS Microsoft ever made. Alas, as time marches on it is become the 57 Chevy of the Windows series. It'll still run, but not without limitations. I keep it alive for senti-Mental reasons: A remnant from the golden years of Windows. Once tablets became a thing everything changed. Incidentally, that was when MS canned its beta testers.

People definitely use an OS the way they want. As stated in my signature, my first PC was in 1981, and I've used (or at least looked at) every operating system up to Windows 11. I used Windows 7, of course, and liked it. But for me, by what I need and use today, it's a bit primitive.

Many on the forum use apps that hack and modify the bejesus out of Windows to make it look and act like W7 or W10. I prefer to run Windows totally clean and unmodified. I like to think that's a prime reason I don't have any problems running Windows 11.

I'm not bothered at all with the apps that Microsoft includes with Windows that I don't use. My systems each have a 1TB drive and those included apps take up a miniscule, almost unmeasurable percentage of my disk space. If I don't want to use an app (I'm not a gamer either) it's not in my menu. Some think unused apps have to be deleted. I just don't bother. If they're not used, they take no resources.

I knew there was a reason I removed one drive from my system. I can't understand the concept. I protect my system why would I copy my files to another location over which I have no control.

I still run win7 on my computer i have hooked up to my TV and 5:1 audio cinema system for movies, series and music.. but that one is offline.. but I'm using it everyday at least 8 up to 16 hours a day.
Same for a work computer where i run Adobe Acrobat pro, Photoshop and MS-Excel when it has micros that is MS© that libre office calc cant handle.
Its only one thing i need windows online for.. and then i have to have latest digital ID software and latest browser.. and win7 isn't supported.

The short answer is security. In the event of a flood or natural disaster or if your hard drive catches fire etc. you have copies of your files and folders and what not saved to someone elses' computer. Then again, if you own more than one piece of property you could set up your own cloud. You could also keep sensitive data on cold storage to keep elsewhere. Your words, "over which I have no control" are plausible; but again it really is a matter of user preference. Not unlike yourself I choose not to use it although I have in the past.

I know you use MS 365 and that is another product.. i just meant win11 now, not the other services as onedrive or MS365 or office2024

Okay

..... i do care about background processes and installed software..... this from two perspectives...... First why have over 120+ threads running when you can have 60+ as it will use CPU and RAM and disk I/O.....
Second one is from a security perspective.. as more software/processes running on your system, as bigger attack surface you have exposed for zeroday exploits.
The first one is more from an "i dont need to upgrade my hardware to often and i can spend my money on fun things instead"..
The second one about security is more logical from normal people perspective,

as the majority of normal users just get a new computer on their credit card and dont care if 4GB ram is used by the system as they have 32GB anyway and never use all the Ram they have installed.

I still prefer Photoshop on Win7. I don't own a T.V. and likely never will. I do have Win7 Pro on my upstairs bed room unit for watching documentaries and things. That old Studio XPS 9001 has served me well and that old Bloomfield i7 960 still handles videos just fine when coupled with a 1050 Ti. I can still get online with it when I need to but I use a switch. I have sooo many switches! lol

Cloud OneDrive, being synced in real-time with my local data, is the offsite component of my 3-2-1 Backup Strategy.

If your beliefs won't allow you to use OneDrive, a sound backup strategy should always include some kind of offsite component.

I totally understand the concept of onedrive and i have totally understanding for @TraderGary's use-case.
I have objections about how its implemented and the lack of end-to-end encryption, so you have to use encrypted containers for really sensitive material. and also as its a default function. instead of you logging in to microsoft store and just click... install onedrive

The idea is good... but the implementation is poor.
