I see that other people appreciate this good piece of software also. The fact that it is free and what it can do in such a speedily way was an eyeopener for me some years ago. Since then I am a fanboy of this company. At a steady basis they are releasing new updates of their product. Their example is a credible one. Free for the home user. Not free (paying) if things are getting more demanding and complicated. Targeting company's with their strategy. This fine piece of software is the right stuff that will attract people to their company. This product is free, other products are not. That is their marketing strategy that is working fine in my eyes.

There's nothing 'wrong', as such.

It's just that some of us prefer the convenience of backing up a live system. There's also the question of what to do with the swapfile.sys, pagefile.sys, and hibefil.sys. A live backup will deliberate exclude them (at least, Macrium does) while an offline backup would include them. We could be talking many GB here.

I occasionally make an offline image. When I do I delete them before starting the image. They're not needed, Windows will recreate then at first boot anyway.

I echo what Bree said as the excluded files for me is over 100GB as those files are a multiple of the installed system RAM so when I went from 32GB of RAM to 64GB of RAM, it basically exceeded my free space available on a 1TB drive after a few days of uptime.

So my first successfully backup and restore with Hasleo Backup Suite which does exclude those files, unlike normally who use the same device that was backed up, anything I change on the original device after the backup will have to be manually copied to the new restored device as after the new device is put in, it will just have the contents as of the time of the backup and nothing after that that was added or changed on the original device between the time of the backup and the restoration which is the same reason I go offline before doing the backup so anything new such as the new messages on Signal Messaging if I was online does not go missing and never read.

Those files are reset after every restart anyway, no need to back them up.

Been employing this Hyper Super Hasleo Backup Solution from it's first introduction. It keeps getting better by leaps and bounds and support/Devs are EXPERT & PROMPT! Former Aoemi Backupper and it is always been 100% and yet since is become a secondary failsafe.

I agree. Those files are not needed.
If you take a look at these files and their function;
- Swapfile.sys and Pagesysfile.sys are virtual diskspace on disk where Windows write to in case a system does not have enough memory. Can be disabled when you have enough RAM that never will be used to it's maximum. Mine are turned off because I have 32Gb of RAM. Never had something on my system that asking more than 32Gb. (e.a. Running multiple VM running at once)
- Hiberfil.sys if not necessary when you don't use the sleep function. (It stores the Windows state (snapshot) before the system goes to sleep) This file takes up the largest space of the 3.

Both are not necessary to backup online or offline. It contains in all cases temporary data. After a restore and a reboot Windows create new ones any way's if they are not there anymore. They only function under certain conditions; (Going to Sleep or not having enough RAM installed)

For the record, Hasleo excludes these files (along with snapshots) unless you specifically tell it to include them.

These are automatically filtered out of new system backups.

As I said and explained earlier. They are not necessary. No wonder they skip these files. They also know the worth of it.

MERGE is become such a valuable addition in Hasleo Backup Suite for some, including myself. I take several increments almost daily (Manually for now), and i have worked over that OPTION severely with smooth reliable results continuously WITHOUT FAIL. Since customizing Windows is my own age old specialty since XP, this is been a great backup system in order to manage with confidence a quick backup option to the FULL IMAGE,

On topic above YES, makes perfect sense to exclude those and helps minimize every backup.

I am a bit reticent to use Hasleo as it is still feels somewhat "New Kid on The Block", and is still under development and has not yet reached the level of maturity I (personally) would desire. Of course, this is a personal opinion and I know many here are very happy with the tool.

Certainly Hasleo will definitely mature in time to be a truly great product - all credit to them.

Of course, many of the products from the Hasleo stable, have free and pro versions. A key question (unanswerable at the moment) is whether Hasleo Backup will remain free or whether a pro version will be introduced, and potentially "premium" features could get moved to pro version.

There is a precedent for this - early versions of wintousb would create bootable usb drives for W10/11 Pro and Home isos but eventually, the free version was downgraded to only create bootable usbs for Home. Other tools like Minitool have done similar "stunts" as well.

PS - tip for wintousb free version workaround for Pro - create a bootable usb using Home, and then upgrade it using a Pro key :wink:

Me too!

But I found the rescue disk (iso) somewhere online and decided to give it a shot.

Not bad at all for something that is given away free. And the restoration is insanely fast.

Since I run more file/folder backups than full system backups, I've gone ahead and downloaded Hasleo and the Acronis for WD (since both of my NVME drives are Western Digital).

Both are setup to run on a daily basis and backup the selected folders from across two drives and into separate folders on a third drive.

So far, they're both working fine. Hasleo gets a plus since it doesn't have a program that needs to run in my system tray in order to do the daily backups.

Currently, the regular size of my backups are approx 9GB. The Acronis backup is about 6.7GB and the Hasleo is about 6.2GB.

My plan is to let them run for a week or so and then see how easy it is to open up and restore each backup.

Hasleo Backup Suite will most likely not be only available as a single free version forever.

There will probably be a free and paid version in the future. That's probably a good thing if we want to see it continue. My guess is that it'll be a perpetual license though.

Yes, I totally agree!
When they do introduce their paid version, the free version will be deprecated.
As such, grab it when it has more or less stabilized. Install it and create a rescue disk for future use.
It is now already quite good. That tells me any upgrades in the coming paid versions will be minor or just window dressing.
