Phone Hear Audio on PC or Phone in Phone Link app on Windows 11

Phone link works well for me on my IOS devices. But I keep reading issues with Android devices. IOS uses Bluetooth alone where as Android apparently needs both WiFi and Bluetooth running. In some cases even extra software, allegedly.
It’s actually not a bad app (for IOS)

Unless a few of us Android phone users are doing something wrong, it doesn't work without using another app.

That example above is Bluetooth Audio Receiver, but I've tested AudioPlaybackConnector, and it also works. Bluetooth Tweaker is also supposed to work, although I haven't yet tested it.

The same for me. The audio works fine for phone calls using Phone Link. However, when I launch a game from Phone Link I have to use the Bluetooth Audio Receiver. Note like in the tutorial my Hear audio from Computer is already set.

UPDATE:

I just realized that my problem was with permissions. Once I sorted that out I didn't need the Bluetooth Audio Receiver anymore. I could switch between Hear audio from Computer or Mobile device in the Phone Link settings.

However, the Bluetooth Audio Receiver still proved useful. For example, if launched the YT Music app on my phone it normally played the audio on my phone. If I then ran the Bluetooth Audio Receiver on my laptop and connected to my phone then the audio was switched to the speakers on my laptop. In this case Phone Link was not even involved.

Unfortunately, I didn't follow what was going on as it happened. I kept getting a message about enabling permissions for streaming audio. When I got the permissions screen it wasn't apparent what to do next. I tried several things until all at once everything started working.

Hello mate,

It most likely would have been permissions for the audio app on the phone. It was the "Music and audio" permissions for the app on mine.

It would be any app installed on the phone for playing music or audio. The "Samsung Music" app is an example.

I just remembered. The app was Link to Windows. After I did something with the permissions, then audio was able to stream from the phone to the PC.

Thanks Ed, but I don't have any permissions denied for Link to Windows, Link to Windows Service or the Phone app.

I just bought a new Win 11 PC and am setting it up. I followed all the steps to connect it to my Android and all is well ... except. Except I can't get the phone's sound onto the PC. I noticed there is a difference between the graphic above and what I see on my Phone Link's Settings>Features page. Mine is missing Show recently use apps and websites, and more importantly, the Hear audio from pulldown.

Without this I can't connect my phone's audio. Have I missed a configuration step that would enable this or is this another case of the tutorial page not looking like what is out in the world? If the former, what did I miss? If the latter, what is the new solution?

@Primer you may also want to have a look through this thread. There are mentions of sound etc and what is needed to connect an android, hit and miss.

Phone Link | We Weren't Able To Connect To Your Mobile Device

A strange thing has been happening to Phone Link in the past two days. I get the message on the right saying that it wasn't able to connect, but on the left, it shows it connected. I've tried toggling Bluetooth off and on, but without success. Any ideas? :unsure:

I had a hard time to get it to work also. Until I did I used an app called Bluetooth Audio Receiver. You can get it from the Microsoft Store.

When I wanted the audio from the phone to come out of the PC speakers I launched the Bluetooth Audio Receiver and made a connection to my phone. Now I don't need it because I got the audio to work using the tutorial.

I gave up getting sound to work on my computer when making and receiving calls without a third party app.
I'll revisit it again one day when I have more patience.

When I talked about sound I was talking about sound from apps on the phone. That has nothing to do with sound from phone calls that has always worked.

Did you go through with the steps in Phone Link to link you PC to your phone? You also need to install the Link to Windows app on your phone.

You didn't say which phone you have. It is possible your phone isn't compatible with Phone Link.

I just checked whether I can hear audio from my Android phone apps.
I tried Music Player and MediaMonkey. Music Player plays audio on my computer, but MediaMonkey doesn't. It only plays it on the phone. Both of these apps have "No Permissions Denied".

Yes, I have Link to Windows app installed.
