I am at the end of the rope with my current BSOD issue and any help would be appreciated. 3 days ago I was getting a "Class not registered error" on any media app (MP3, MP4, etc). I tried the basic workarounds within Windows 11 and nothing worked. So I did a system restore. Ever since then I'm unable to log on to Windows as it goes directly to BSOD "Critical Process Died." I've tried the following:

1. Automatic repair is "Your PC did not start correctly:
2. Startup repair couldn't repair your PC
3. Both "Uninstall Updates" are "we ran into a problem ... "
4. Safe mode does nothing. BSOD
5. System Restore gives me the "You must enable system protection." When I go to command prompt and do the "restrui.exe /online ..." workaround, it now sees the C: drive restore point but fails to restore.
6. DISM check/restore health, etc., gives me "cannot find the file specified" and 'Could not repair."
7. Chkdsk /f gives me "write protected" cannot fix. Every workaround does not fix
8. Reset this PC (the last thing I wanted to do as I have massive apps and plugins) gives me "there was a problem resetting your PC"
9. I ran a boot rebuild through a 3rd party app vis USB stick. Rebuilt the MBR successfully. Same result. BSOD

I've resigned myself to the fact I will probably have to format and reinstall a fresh windows, which will set me back a week. But 2 problems:

1. the computer is only 3 months old and a recent upgrade. Is there, and how would I find out, a hardware issue?
2. I took out the SSD and used a USB reader to access it from another computer and it read fine. I did a surface check which checked out fine. I ran a system hardware diagnostics through BIOS and everything checked out fine. Could it still be a hardware issue?

Any help would be most appreciated. I have everything backed up so I will lose no data, but since I run a recording studio, the amount of time reinstalling is a potential nightmare, especially since I just did it 3 months ago. And I don't want to start over on a potentially unstable of damaged system. Thanks for any help in advance.

PS ... I could not run log collector via USB stick. Any help with that? Thanks

Welcome to the forum :-)

I would simply wipe and thoroughly test the SSD and then re-install Windows. It is possible the SSD has/had some bad sectors and you now have missing data on the drive which is causing the BSOD etc...

If you experience any hardware related issues during the Windows install, then RMA the PC or simply replace the drive if you think the PC itself is OK.

This is more than likely a SSD or RAM issue, I would start with SeaTools Bootable aka DOS as suggested by @zbook.

Hello, I am having this problem for a day, now my problem started when I updated my uhd 620 driver to 30.1+ version, then played a game of dota 2, then a sudden power interruption occured, and scrambled my ssd and hdd partition and volume letters, I have been trying to find solutions. Using a bootable flash drive then opening cmd and Using bcdedit, dism, bootrec and all but no luck.

I followed this tutorial from youtube, and it arranged my UEFI Boot drive properly:

But now, I am having error codes 0x0000001.
And sometimes, FILE\BCD error.

Di you happen to find a solution to yours OP?

When the power went out, it is possible that the drive wrote random data to random locations on the drive and that may have damaged the drive partition data. This is a rare event, but it is possible.

I would suggest that you delete all partitions from the drive and re-install Windows on the drive, letting Windows recreate the partitions etc...

Of course, you can backup the data on the Windows partition, but only use it to recover files from. Do not try to rewrite the data to the new Windows partition, otherwise you may end up right back where you started from.

Having exactly the same issue as you.
Did you end up having to reinstall?
Really can't be bothered to do all of that as I have tons of software to reload.

With your point 7, the write protected i had that as well but I had been typing the commands on x instead of specifying C. Let me run them when i changed it. I still get Error 87 on anything I run anyway or error 2.
Can't open any log files says access denied.
My issue started when I did a system restore after my dual monitor stopped connecting. It then got stuck on a green screen of death critical process failed.
I am sure its related to the crappy dual graphics cards.
Cant boot into safe mode says

"the operating system could not be loaded because the digital signature of a file blah blah blah"

Loading in low resolution just goes back to bsod.

and it won't let me do much else.
exactly same as yours. Wont roll back updates. Running sfc /scannow finds errors and fixed them every time it's run.

The drive is less than 6months old a samsung 990 pro evo. It is monitored and shows as 98% health in HD Sentinel and Crystal disk. The health just being due to so much data written.

Very likely a bad drive. Or it got corrupted due to not updating the firmware of your Samsung 990 Pro.

@b1289 You listed your computer as a Dell, and you said it was only 3 months old. If this is true, you are still under full warranty. Call Dell and they will remote into your PC and either fix it or send you a replacement.
