Help with configuring the correct settings to BOOT have UEFI on a ROG Strix 470-F Gaming mobo.
At present Windows version is Windows 10 C: drive Samsung 860 EVO M.2 NVME SSD
NOTE: these are not the actual BIOS pictures. I will have to give instructions to my daughter who lives in an other town to do this hence my questions!
BOOT Option 1 would be my C: NVMe SSD for Option 2 would be the Optical drive
2021-07-01_00-13-15.jpg

What would be the correct settings for these?

Appreciate your help

The drive is MBR.
The BIOS is using CSM.

Plan: MBR2GPT
UEFI hybrid (with CSM) > UEFI native (without CSM)

Do this... in this order...

1. Open Command Prompt as Admin and type: mbr2gpt /convert /allowfullOS then hit Enter
2. When it finishes... reboot the cxomputer, and enter the BIOS
3. On the Boot tab do the things circled in RED.
4. Set the Boot Priority however you want. The SSD has to be either the 1st or 2nd item.
5. Hit the F10 key to Save and Exit

Just did this yesterday, and I also have an optical drive (DVD).

For the Boot Priority, I have the DVD 1st and my Windows SSD 2nd... just in case I want to use a bootable DVD.

Yeah... if you don't choose "UEFI and Legacy" you won't "see" the DVD in the list for the Boot Priority.

First post in this topic has links for the GitHub Compatibility tool, to check for Win 11 readiness.
And the six Microsoft tools (built into Windows) to check for TPM 2.0 readiness.

How to pass the Windows 11 Compatibility Checks

000000 MBR to GPT.png

Using that MBR2GPT command, creates the EFI partition, and moves "System" from the C:\ drive to the EFI partition.

The GitHub tool. (DirectX takes about 15 seconds to finish)

Today I run WhatNotWin11 for first view it had Boot Method, Disk Partition Type and TPM Version in the red.
Run mbr2gpt /convert /allowfullOS it converted the disk but I am concerned by the following lines
call WinReRpair to repair WinRe
mbr2gpt Failed to update ReAgent.xml, please try to manually disable and enable WinRe
mbr2gpt.jpg

Disk was converted
C drive.jpg

Compatibility
Compatibility.jpg

Security Processor Details
TPM version.jpg

So, my only worry is about the WinRe failure, any suggestions on how to resolve?

Today I run WhatNotWin11 for first view it had Boot Method, Disk Partition Type and TPM Version in the red.
Run mbr2gpt /convert /allowfullOS it converted the disk but I am concerned by the following lines
call WinReRpair to repair WinRe

So, my only worry is about the WinRe failure, any suggestions on how to resolve?

If C:\$WinREAgent folder is 0 bytes, that's why it failed.
Mine is also like that, from deleting the Recovery partition.

I did notice that you have a Recovery partition, so in your case, I don't know.

Possibly. I don't know. I have less than zero interest in Recovery partitions.
I live and die by backup software. That hasn't failed me yet in over 18 years.

I think I'll leave it alone in case it breaks something. I too create backups with Macrium Reflect.

I'll mark this as solved as the settings to be able to run Windows11 have be achieved.(y):coffee:

I've noticed that MS keeps adding things (like a Recovery partition), that aren't really needed.
My guess is... things like that are for people that don't keep backups.

On Ten Forums there are tutorials for making bootable rescue media, that do far more than the Recovery partition can do.

For example: Create a WinPE USB or ISO

or... Win10XPE - Build Your Own Rescue Media - Windows 10 Help Forums
