How can I limit my CPU temps?

"Undervolting reduces the voltage and hence the power and temperature at the same performance level. "

That is not true, Laptop CPUs are designed to use lower voltages primarily to save on power in the interests of Battery life, the performance is also lowered.

Perhaps people should mug up on some Semiconductor Physics.

I just use snake oil paint on the "Intel CORE i7" label, changing the i7 to i9.
People always think they can get something for nothing, hence the proliferation of Optimising Apps like the one mentioned.

All this is off topic for the OP.

I am a physicist. The performance has nothing to do with semiconductor physics. It has to do with how the processors are throttled on power, current and temperature - not voltage - and Ohm's law (including the power relationship).

It is not off topic in the sense undervolting can be used to reduce temperatures and was already brought up in that contest in this topic. I am responding to try and clear up some misconceptions. You yourself responded and so are also responsible for perpetuating the discussion btw.

Undervolting reduces the voltage and hence the power and temperature at the same performance level. Depending what you want, the cpu can either run cooler at the same performance or the same temperature at higher performance.

How much you can gain is dependent on the quality of your cpu sample. You also need to stress test the cpu since, if you Undervolt too far your system can become unstable. Your BIOS also has to support it. It can be tedious and frustrating.
It underclocks but does not undervolt if referring to Camomile since my system will not undervolt in Windows 11 due to the virtualization security enabled which blocks access to the MSR needed to undervolt. There is a workaround named PowerMonkey which allows undervolting before the system fully boots up which will work with 99% of everything except Windows Subsystem for Android. I am a Astrophysicist.

I would not trust any app to do the right thing. Was referring to BIOS Undervolting, maybe Intel XTU.

Not sure if Power Monkey would be considered an app or not but Intel XTU and/Throttlestop which both depend on reading/writing to does not work in Windows 11 if Virtualization Security is enabled. Specifically, WSL2, Virtual Machine Platform is activated. This feature enables VBS and VBS blocks accessing specific MSRs via software.

This explains it better.

Thanks @PerpetualCycle for commenting on the thread, otherwise I wouldn't have done a search and found how to do this without even using Power Monkey which I will try some other time.

I would not trust any app to do the right thing. Was referring to BIOS Undervolting, maybe Intel XTU.
For clarification, BIOS undervolting is the act of changing the voltage offset of the CPU to a value below zero by accessing the setting for it in the "BIOS", or UEFI firmware on a computer the UEFI firmware of which can provide user access to this setting if the user knows how to access it, which not all users know, but which the YouTube video that I earlier linked shows how it can be done on a MSI Raider laptop from 2023 that uses the same exact Intel i9-13800HX CPU that the OP also has.

For further clarification, choosing to use XTU or ThrottleStop to undervolt the CPU (i.e. as opposed to choosing to use the above mentioned "BIOS" method to undervolt the CPU) gives the main benefit of not risking to brick the computer after it crashes as a result of instability caused by undervolting farther than the maximum that the CPU can handle without it becoming too severely unstable to still be able to change the offset value back to something that can be considered to be a tad more conservative. Then again, if the user has read the basics about how this works, then it should be trivial the fact that this risk is possible to be avoided by using XTU or ThrottleStop to first find out through experimentation exactly how "too severely" will translate to a voltage offset value that can be considered to be reasonably safe to apply in the BIOS settings for that CPU. So basically, the biggest problem is that a lot of people don't read the basics. Basically. But now I am going a little off topic. :D

AFAIK dumping the BIOS when you're on Intel 13th/14th Gen is not possible without using a SPI Flash Programmer, though. So, on those, if your BIOS doesn't let you unlock undervolting (e.g. through a "secret"/hidden menu of the BIOS), then the method described in the Reddit post won't be that simple.

You are most likely correct since in my case, it's a 8th generation processor i7-8750H to be exact.

After upgrading BIOS certain motherboard devices are affected and will also need to update their respective drivers. This is where you install the newer Intel thunderbolt driver and the Intel Management utility.
Speaking about Thunderbolt drivers as I do not have any thunderbolt devices on my system, what section is the Thunderbolt supposed to be under in Device Manager? Thanks!

If it's an onboard Thunderbolt controller, then it should appear in the System devices category, and both the Thunderbolt HSA Component and the Thunderbolt Toast Component should appear in the Software components category. If its the Asus ThunderboltEX 4 expansion card, then AFAIK all three of these will appear in the Universal Serial Bus controllers category instead.

In my case, it's part of the Dell XPS 9570 Laptop. I know when it shipped, the Intel Thunderbolt did show up in Device Manager but after I did a upgrade to Windows 11, I had never seen it again. Someone in another thread a few years ago said it will only show up if I plugged a Thunderbolt Device as on my system, the USB 3.0 and Thunderbolt share the same physical port.

That is not true, Laptop CPUs are designed to use lower voltages primarily to save on power in the interests of Battery life, the performance is also lowered.
Not really, CPU runs at the same speed, it just takes less voltage, it is basics of overclocking. Manufacturers do not tinker with it, because each CPU is different, they just set the highest working safe speed and voltage. I undervolted my laptop and overclocked it at the same time. I got 2GHz instead of 1.9GHz and 30C lower temperature at full load, 70C vs 100C. I would not use a laptop without undervolting.

On my old Medion P6678 laptop (model MD61550, MSN 30023793) with an Intel i5-7200U from the local Aldi grocery store it was possible to undervolt out-of-the-box by using nothing but ThrottleStop.

I don't know about your area, but here in Greece Dell has a very good support. A Technician comes with the parts and repairs your computer in your house or office. If it requires too many hours they can arrange to send and receive it back without charge, depending on your Warranty terms.

First, update the BIOS by using the M-FLASH method. Also grab the Intel Management Engine Firmware Update Tool from this same webpage.
Still on this same webpage, you can go to the Drivers section and also grab the Intel Thunderbolt driver from there so that you don't have to do it later. (As for the Utility section, just grab all the utilities that you think you might need from it or maybe consider to do it later.)

Next, consider to undervolt your CPU. This video is about the Raider GE78HX (not the GE68HX-13VF), but the method to unlock undervolting on the CPU will still likely be the same.
hihi, i know its been a bit, but i ended up undervolting it by like ~ 100, do you think thats good enough? it seems to be working and i have ran a short OCCT test for 10 mins and it worked out great. how would i know if the undervolt doesnt turn out good?
