(Trying other method to extract MacriumRescue.iso to an USB stick)

Ignore UltraISO and open Macrium Reflect.

In Macrium, in the top left, go to "Other Tasks" and select "Create Rescue Media...". If it asks to update allow it to do so. Once the update is done, select the USB drive in the list and click "Build" for it to do what you're looking for.

When you go to create the media, it will tell you what format to use and if the drive is already in that format. If the drive is in an incompatible format, it will offer you the option to format it correctly and do so as part of the build process.

Macrium Reflect will do all that for you with no help.
I believe it chooses FAT32.

Simple... just put a USB stick in a USB port somewhere, and just do what is shown in the picture above.
Macrium Reflect made it so simple... even I can do it. :-)
If you have a 3rd party firewall, you may have to allow: rmbuilder.exe so Macrium can build the USB stick.
C:\Program Files\Macrium\Reflect\rmbuilder.exe

After you create the Macrium Rescue Media USB stick, test it to make sure you can boot from it.
Restart the computer... hit the F12 key (Gigabyte motherboards), a few times to access the Boot Menu.
Then choose the USB stick to boot from.
You may have TWO options... UEFI-USB... and just plain USB...
If one doesn't work... try the other. :-)


That picture guide I linked in post #4, has just about everything you need, to get started with Macrium Reflect and a few extra goodies as well.










I also linked AnyBurn in that post.
I used to use UltraISO, PowerISO, etc. AnyBurn is a LOT simpler.
Like you mentioned making an ISO "image" from files... it's one click in AnyBurn...

I always use exFAT. Helps with not messing up file permissions when using the stick on another computer.

Also see this guide to partition that USB stick into two partitions, one as the bootable sector and the other as backup partition in case you had a large USB that can accommodate your data.

A Macrium rescue drive is a WinPE/RE bootable drive. For any such ISO, including Windows install media, it's simply a matter of mounting the ISO and copying all the files and folders to a Fat32 partition on the USB stick. This should then be bootable in UEFI mode. If you want it to also be bootable in Legacy MBR mode then in addition you need to mark the partition as Active.

Macrium Reflect can of course make the USB directly, as others have already said. But there are times when it can be convenient to make a USB from an ISO. All my Windows install USB's are made that way, I use the MCT to create an ISO then make as many USBs from it as I need.

    fully 'Windows 11 ready' laptop. Windows 10 C: partition migrated from my old unsupported 'main machine' then upgraded to 11. A test migration ran Insider builds for 2 months. When 11 was released on 5th October 2021 it was re-imaged back to 10 and was offered the upgrade in Windows Update on 20th October. Windows Update offered the 22H2 Feature Update on 20th September 2022. It got the 23H2 Feature Update on 4th November 2023 through Windows Update, 24H2 on 3rd October 2024 through Windows Update by setting the Target Release Version for 24H2, and 25H2 on 30th September 2025 through Windows Update by setting the Target Release Version for 25H2.

    UPDATE - 11 April 2026: due to mechanical deterioration this PC has been retired from active duty. The OS with all software and files has been migrated to my System Seven in 'Other systems' to carry on as my general purpose 'main machine'.

    I've now clean installed 25H2 and used Garlin's scripts to update Secure Boot to CA 2023 and revoke the PCA 2011 certificates. It's new role is to test secure boot issues.

    My SYSTEM FOUR is a 2-in-1 convertible Lenovo Yoga 11e 20DA, Celeron N2930, 8GB RAM, 256GB ssd. Unsupported device: currently running Win10 Pro, plus Win11 Pro RTM and Insider Dev, Beta, and RP 24H2 as native boot vhdx.

    My SYSTEM FIVE is a Dell Latitude 3190 2-in-1, Pentium Silver N5030, 8GB RAM, 1TB NVMe ssd, supported device running Windows 11 Pro, plus Insider Beta, Dev, and Canary builds (and a few others) as a native boot .vhdx.

    My SYSTEM SIX is a Dell Latitude 5550, Core Ultra 7 165H, 64GB RAM, 1TB NVMe SSD, supported device, Windows 11 Pro 24H2, Hyper-V host machine. Updated to 25H2 on 30th September 2025.

    My SYSTEM SEVEN is a Lenovo Thinkpad T580, Intel Core i7-8650U, 16GB RAM, 512GB NVMe SSD + 2nd 512GB NVMe SSD, a supported device for Windows 11. This is my current general purpose 'main machine'. The installed Windows 11 Home from my System One has been migrated to this machine.
