Assuming there isn't a process with an open file handle...
  • Take ownership of the file through properties > security or the CLI with takeown
  • Grant yourself full access to the file with the same GUI or CLI with icacls
  • Delete file

Acronis True Image blocks deletion of image files from within Windows.

I forget which processes need to be killed in Task Manager to stop that. (It has been a while since I used True Image.) But stopping any Acronis process that you find should be OK.

Hi Bikeit,

I am pretty sure that the (only) best way to delete an Acronis backup is within Acronis itself. Just right click and choose delete.

Kind regards,

tecknot

Nah. It's easy enough to kill a process in Task Manager.

The "we know what's best for you" design of True Image was one reason I stopped using it.

In my True Image 2019, I turn "Active Protection" OFF and can then manipulate and delete backup files at will.

Not personally tested as I have not used Acronis since 2006 or so.
