How to put a disc of photos on to Windows 11

I have a new Windows 11 when my Windows 10 broke down, but it has no disc drive. As I understand it, I cannot download a disc of photos I have been given on to Windows 11 but I believe I would have to purchase separately an external DVD Drive to be able to do this??? It must not be read only, I presume??? This is because I want to edit and brighten up some of the photos once I get them on my desktop computer and send some to relatives. I would not want to watch films but perhaps play some DVDs I have sometime.

Am I correct that I should buy an external DVD Drive, which I presume will allow me to download photos and listen to my old CDs on it. I am not very computer savvy, so any advice would be most appreciated. Please keep replies simple as I am not very good with computer terminology.

Hi.

- You can buy an external DVD reader/writer.
- You can see if a friend has a DVD drive and copy the photos to a USB stick.

Most often when you copy photos from a DVD disk, they will be read only when you copy them to the destination.
You simply select all the images (or individual images) after you have copied them over, right mouse click on the group of images/image and uncheck “Read Only”

If you want to play music CD’s and you are not tech savvy to convert the music to MP3 files (which you would need a DVD drive for anyway) yes, buy an external DVD drive.
I would suggest shopping around online, you don’t want to pay to much, they should be relativly inexpensive.

Yea, it's been a few years since laptops included CD/DVDs. For my laptop I bought a LG Ultra Slim Portable DVD Writer. I probably paid more then the one in the link, but it seems to work fine on W10 and W11. Mostly, I just leave it in the box in a drawer and only pull it out when needed.

Thank you for your response. So if I have it correct:

1) a dvd reader/writer would be fine for the photographs ONLY to put them into my computer;
2) but if I want to put photos online PLUS play my old CDs, a DVD Drive would cover both music and photo queries. Do I have this correct?

By the way, my friends use Apple and/or mobiles I believe.

The photos are on a disc but not sure if that would be a CD or DVD. Firm is called Snappy Snaps.

I'm a little confused by your post. Any external DVD drive should do everything you want. I have two of them. One is basically a laptop drive installed in an external case and the other is an actual 5 1/4" drive. They both can do Blu-ray disc.

I use to love fish and chips until I had a bad experience. I ate at a major fish and chips chain restaurant one time and I think the fish wasn't stored correctly. Shortly after eating my dinner I luckily made it home just in time. I'm not even sure if the chain is still in business.

Sorry as I said, I am not very computer savvy. I do not know anything about Blue-Ray. I only want to know what I should buy.

I want to be able to download some photos from a disk to my desktop, edit them a bit then send them off to friends and family.

I also want to play some of my old CDs. I have a WIndows 11 and I cannot do either of these now where I could on my old Windows 10.

Basically all you need is an Optical DVD/CD drive with USB-A or USB-C connectors.

That should do for Copying across Photos to your PC/Laptop and indeed playing Music CDs.
