Also do the same change for When Notepad starts. That is what was set to Tabs on my laptop.

When I double-click either the notepad.exe that's in Windows or the notepad.exe that's in Windows\System32, it opens the new Notepad, not the classic one. Do I have to make Edwin's registry changes (page 1 of this thread) to get the old one to work, or do I need to unistall Notepad in Programs and Features to access the old version? Something else?

I did both, uninstalling first. Best to keep the new one out the way. And the registry change is to remove the restriction MS placed on you accessing the old one with file associations.
