Among the many annoying things in Win 11 (that I regrettably had to install and am trying to tailor) that I'm running into is its use of Bing whenever I try to find something. I've changed Firefox to default to Duck Duck but every time I click on Windows key and search for something that's on Win 11 it invokes Bing which I don't want to use and searches with it. How do I change that to Duck Duck?

When I press the WinKey it brings up the Search that is in Windows.

I have Firefox set to use duckduckgo.com as default Internet Search with a URL link on its Bookmarks Toolbar.

I've not seen the above settings ever work. That's not to say something hasn't changed.

But at least until recently, It doesn't matter what browser or search engine you set to default when searching and clicking on links in the Microsoft Search functions.
Any results are converted to Microsoft Edge specific links and will open in Edge/Bing by forced protocol.

“It's the MICROSOFT-EDGE protocol (not the HTTP or HTTPS protocol), which will totally ignore the user's default browser selection and open the search result links using Edge”

microsoft-edge:https://blah.balh.blah
Or
microsoft-edge://

It's pretty sneaky and quite frankly I don't yet get how Microsoft gets away with it, especially since "United States v. Microsoft Corp back in 2001.

The only way I know of to bypass this is by an app I use called Microsoft Edge Redirect. It prevents Edge from hijacking the users default browser and search preferences.

This will show a Some of these settings are managed by your organization message at the top of the Settings page in Edge
