Solved How to set to always run as administrator?

I'm using XYplorer file manager portable as a trial.
I expanded to a folder and them moved to C:\Program Files\xyplorer and then created a XYplorer.exe shortcut on the desktop.
The problem is that when I exit the program a message say that saving settings were denied.

If I run the shortcut as Administrator it close normally (and apparently save settings).
So it seems that any program placed under C:\Program Files is protected from modify by a regular user.
How to make the XYplorer.exe shortcut on the desktop work as administrator without right click and choose Run as Administrator?

Generally a portable program is intended to be used on removable drives. There is a PortableApps program intended for that type use. I have an old program that can run as portable called Claris Works 5, just copy/paste its folder to a drive and run the .exe file.

Since portable apps don't actually get installed they usually won't save any custom settings, don't write to the Registry except maybe when creating a shortcut to the .exe file for the program.

You could use the method below to create an elevated shortcut for the app to always have it run as administrator without getting the UAC prompt.

I don't agree with your conception of portables. I have a fairly large collection of portables, and most of them have custom settings that they store in the program folder where the executable is located. They have no trouble saving settings without writing them to the registry, though a few of the downloadable portables do write stuff to the reg. CCleaner is infamous for the portable version's use of registry entries, for instance.

However, for the most part, portables leave the registry and the user folders alone, and don't throw dll's and other files into system folders. They just work. They aren't crippled versions of the installed versions at all.

I have 11 that were downloaded from their devs as portables, and I have two from PortableApps.com. I also have 10 that I converted to portables by extracting their operating files from the installers that their dev sites offered. And I have some standalones that are offered at their sites without any installer versions. All of these work perfectly and update easily.

Wow @Wisewiz I am very impressed at your record keeping skills...all in alphabetical order, too. I started out being so diligent ane organized but everything fell by the wayside at some point along the way. Now I have to sometimes hunt and peck to find something I want. Sometimes, it not even there anymore. Good job.

Afraid I can't take any credit for that. It was/is all LibreOffice Writer (PortableApps.com version). I just asked it to alphabetize on the first letter, and then I asked it to number the entries. Now that that's done, if I want to insert a new entry, I just hit Enter at the end of the alphabetically previous item, and insert the new item on the already numbered blank next line. To delete an entry, all I have to do is Backspace the item from right to left until it disappears, and the numbering fixes itself. There's a more complex way to add an item (say, at the bottom of the list) and integrate it in alphabetical order, but it's not worth that effort. It's easy to just use Enter and Backspace.
