and did the changes to make my admin settings more secure. However the password I set I cannot get it to work - has anyone got any ideas on how to fix this problem like how to find the password.
Any help would be most appreciated.

I didn't watch the whole video, but changing your Administrator account to a standard user account doesn't look like a good idea to me.

First try a simple fix by running System Restore and restoring it back prior to the time you messed with your Administrator account.
Alternatively, restore a system image.

That's right, because if you did everything in that video, you changed YOUR user account to a standard user . Standard user priviledges restrict you from installing programs or accessing regedit.
First you’ll need to enable the builtin administrator account, which is disabled by default.

To do so, search for Command Prompt in the Start menu, right-click the Command Prompt shortcut, and select Run as administrator.
1. type net user administrator /active:yes
2.restart
3.you will see 2 users on the login screen-select Administrator. Since you've given this account a password when you followed the video, enter that password
4. Windows will eventually put you to the basic administrator account desktop
5. go to settings-accounts-family and other users- click the drop arrow on the right next to YOUR account-click change account type-select drop arrow and choose administrator
6. restart again and login into YOUR account-you should have access to everything again
7. Then you need to disable the hidden administrator account. DON'T FORGET THE PASSWORD YOU ASSIGNED TO THIS ACCOUNT.
8. Again open command prompt and run as administrator and type net user administrator /active:no

Thanks for the replies I will give these a try otherwise I suppose I shall have to reinstall Windows 11 which will be difficult as I am running it on unsupported hardware. Now the only problem is I cannot run the command prompt with admin rigthstas I get that pop up asking for the forgotten password. But will give it a try.

No nothing will come up without that password not run a restore point. I do remember using a hint word for it but even using that doesn't work. So looks like a complete reinstall which means installing 10 all over again as well.:(
But I suppose at least I can still try out Windows 11 even if I cannot get hold of that password for the command prompt and regedit etc etc eh?

NO. You do not need to install 10 first. Just install 11. If you are using a Microsoft it should activate just fine....and stay away from those youtube videos. Use advice from reputable forums instead.

Reinstalling the operating system is not necessary. That can be a lot of work.
It's not installing the operating system that takes the work. It's installing your applications and settings.

As I grow older, I find myself looking for the simplest and easiest solutions, and ones that require the least amount of work.
If the easy and simple solutions fail, then I go down the other paths to fix the problem.

Restoring a system image may better suit ICIT2LOL.
I am only assuming that ICIT2LOL has an image after being on this forum for such a lengthy time.
Everyone here promotes backing up on this forum, and rightly so. (y)

Yes well, I would but the machine I have Windows 11 on has unsupported hardware and to do that the registry in Windows 10 had to be changed to allow the installation to happen. Now whether this can still be done over the top of the current install by just creating a Windows.old folder I don't know. I suppose I could give it a try as I have nothing to lose really and yes it seemed like a good idea at the time and I should have created a restore point before trying the option out eh?:( Otherwise, it means reinstalling 10 and changing the registry to accommodate Windows 11.

Plus Stigg mate I have not got an image unfortunately because I thought that the trial of 11 would not go for this long:(

No,
Download an iso using Download Windows 11 Disk Image (ISO)option here Download Windows 11

Download Rufus Rufus - Create bootable USB drives the easy way the portable version is fine

connect an 8gb or larger USB drive to your computer, and start Rufus

  • Rufus will automatically detect the USB drive, but in case it doesn’t, or if you see a different drive selected, click on the dropdown menu under the Device label, and select your USB drive.
  • Click on the SELECT button under the Boot Selection label, to the right. Navigate to the downloaded Windows 11 ISO file, and select it. Rufus will populate the rest of the settings, which you have to change according to your system of choice.
  • Under the Image Options label, select Extended Windows 11 in installation (no TPM / no Secure Boot). This setting exists to ensure you can install Windows 11 without TPM checking halting the process.
  • Depending upon your BIOS Mode , under the Partition Scheme label, select MBR, if you have a BIOS system or GPT, if if you have a UEFI system. You should see the Target System label reflect your BIOS Mode as you switch the Partition Scheme.
  • If you have a rather old 64-bit system you’re attempting this on, check the Add fixes for old BIOSes option.
  • Click on Start to create the bootable USB. It will take some time to write the files to the USB drive. You will see a confirmation when the process is complete.

The rest of the process is just like any regular old bootable USB installation by following the tutorial I listed above.

Ok glasskuter I will have to download the iso and put it on a stick on another machine because I am being asked for that password for admin and I just cannot remember that particular PW.
Edit I just tried making that drive but it failed because of soem I/O error. so I might try another stick.

Thanks for the replies I will give these a try otherwise I suppose I shall have to reinstall Windows 11

There is no need to reinstall. You can fix it using the procedure in
Fix UAC prompt has greyed out or missing Yes button - TenForumsTutorials
Whilst I have not had to use the procedure in Windows 11 yet, there is nothing Windows10-specific in it so it should work equally well.
It applies to your situation; the title just comes from the symptom that most people first report.

Best of luck,
Denis
