Solved HP Bios help

I have been trying for 2 days to install W11 on my non-supported Desk PC ! I have followed the Rufus directions & made the ISO but when i click on the setup file it goes into loading Windows 11 checking for updates then i get the message that my computer is not supported !! One thing that is puzzling me is i have set the registry to the new file AllowUpgrades Rg_Dword to 1 and clicked it to Enable TPM but i cannot access my Bios, is there another way i might set the TPM ?? Any help here ?? I have been working with computers ever since the old 3.1 so i am no Rookie but something baffle me & this is one ....... any suggestions ?? This is not for my main computer that i am on !

Turn on the computer, and then immediately press the esc key repeatedly until the Startup Menu opens. Press f10 to open the BIOS Setup Utility.

And do what?

All you did was tell them how to enter the BIOS (provided f10 works for them, it doesn't on my laptop, nor my desktop).

@flashh4; how old is your laptop you're trying to install Windows 11 on?

Dru2 ........... none of the keys work other than the ESC show the Bios menu but the keys that are supposed to take me into them none work ! I did find this statement while digging around >>

System Information : Device Encryption Support ..... Reasons for failed automatic device encryption. TPM is not usable, PCR7 binding is not supported , hardware Security Test interface
failed and device is not modern standby, unallowed DMA capable bus/ devices ...... so what can you make of that ??

Well, I have no answers here since I've not experienced installing Windows 11 on a PC where I had to reg hack or use Rufus.

My main PC is fully compatible with Windows 11, so I just used the MCT tool to create the install media on USB drive and did a clean install. On my other desktop and laptop, though they have TPM 2.0, it's my CPUs (i7-7700K, and i7-7600U) that aren't supported. Here, I simply joined Insiders and installed that way. Again, no issues.

So, with that, I have no experience with your approach. Sorry. And the only reason I addressed FreeBooter is because he posted a half answer without details of what to do next based on his suggestion.

@flashh4; how old is your laptop you're trying to install Windows 11 on?

Op asked for how to enter BIOS to setup TPM.

Ah, OK. BTW, be aware there are numerous ways to enter a laptop BIOS. Most of it being vendor/model specific.

On desktop boards it's mostly "delete". On laptops it can be Enter, F1, F2, F10, F12, or something else. On my Lenovo ThinkPad Yoga X1 it's Enter, then press F1 to enter the BIOS. Always best to check the owner's manual.

A quick search via Google relieved that you only have to press F10 to enter the HP BIOS.

As said, key press depends on vendor and/or model of notebook/desktop. Best to check owner's manual as not all HP's will use F10 :)

If for some reason you can't get into the bios as Freebooter said, you can through recovery.
In search-type recovery

Click Recovery, then Restart now.
The Options menu will be seen after executing the above procedures. Click Troubleshoot.
Select Advanced options.
Click UEFI Firmware Settings.
Choose Restart. This displays the BIOS setup utility interface.

From a running Window session:
- Start key, Power icon, hold the Shift key and select Restart
- the PC should boot to the Recover menu
- select Troubleshoot, and then select boot UEFI/BIOS

The PC should now reboot into the BIOS. Then search around for the TPM setting.

@flashh4, your specs say that your system is an HP Envy TE01 but that is only a partial model number. I looked up one of the many TE01 models and the hotkey to enter the BIOS is F10. Hopefully that is accurate for your model, but I would encourage you to look at the user guide for your specific model. It will tell you for sure what the correct hotkey is.

If you can provide the full model number I'll try to do some additional digging to determine if there is a TPM in your system of if the BIOS will support a firmware TPM from the CPU.

In the meantime, a question: Is your intention to perform an upgrade installation to Windows 11 or are you willing to perform a completely clean install of 11?

EDIT: Again, I only have partial model info, but the model I looked up has a BIOS update to support Win 11. Check for a BIOS update for your system.

In the meantime, a question: Is your intention to perform an upgrade installation to Windows 11 or are you willing to perform a completely clean install of 11?

Either would work !!

The computer Specs in my profile is NOT the one i am working on !!

That doesn't make sense and what glasskuter posted should work. Here's the tutorial though: Boot to Advanced Startup Options in Windows 10. And it works on Windows 11 as I just used it the other day. If that isn't working for you, there is an issue beyond worrying about TPM

That said, is your drive encrypted (using BitLocker)?

Dru2 .......... glasskuter advice did not work .......... Bitlocker is not used on my drive, it's not even on my computer ! After reading about Bitlocke encrypting i think that may be where the problem arises from, i will check to see if it is on the computer after it finishes resetting ! Thanks

Thanks for the information. If you are willing to perform a clean install, I will give you a procedure that I can virtually guarantee will work that needs NO third party utilities (Rufus, etc.). This should at least get Windows 11 installed. You can then always investigate and enable a TPM, etc. if you find that info later.

Note that I did lookup you model, but there is not enough info for me on the HP support page.

I need a few minutes to type this, so I'll post instructions in a few min. In the meantime, I would suggest a backup of the Windows drive (typically C:) just in case you need to restore it for any reason.

Look for another response from me in a few min.
