Good to know, but I need to buy new keys anyway since I ran out of 8.1 keys last year. (I technically have four 11 keys that are no longer used, but I don't have the written down anywhere to try them and they aren't linked properly to my Microsoft account.) So I'm going to buy 2 new keys and set up 2 VMs and not redo the third one.

You can activate 1 VM but attach as many vhdx files as you like to boot from (create a multiboot menu) - they will all be activated.

I may have to look into that, cause I'm sick of buying keys :) and if I can fix my main system and the tutorial system I can just multi-boot the main one. Would that by chance be part of Kari's tutorial? I'm still reading it while doing like a dozen other things so it's kind of slow going. If not, would you by chance know of a tutorial? (if you don't off hand, don't waste time searching for me, I can do that too... you guys have been so helpful I don't want to waste your time.)

I had no idea about this. If I didn't want to manipulate all of my VMs in real time simultaneously, this is what I'd do for my Insider Build VMs lol.

So, quick update...
I ran a PowerShell (admin) prompt, ran the command below, and fixed the network on the Tutorials VM that would still load.

I still haven't attempted destroying and re-adding the hard drive to the other VMs since I had to leave for a while in the middle of this stuff. I'll update you on those tomorrow.

I managed to get the time to try the steps that Kari talked about in their tutorial (Here)... however, when I try to remove the HDD I get the following error:


This doesn't throw the error when I click to remove the drive, but when I click Apply at the bottom of the screen. I tried a different approach by clicking "New" and walking through the wizard to make a new VHDx and it creates the new one, but again, when I hit Apply it asks if I want to create a new Checkpoint or just Continue and no matter what I say, I get the above error. (I haven't tried the last VM yet).

For others having this kind of issue (it's rare, so doubtful)... The following DID WORK:
Right-clicked "Official (activated)" and go to Settings...
Go to the DVD Drive and do NOT remove it... Click Browse and select the ISO file (or a new one), Click Apply at the bottom (should be no error).
Now go to Hard Drive and do NOT remove it... Click Browse and select the new one you made if you followed what I did above in this post. Clicking Apply now will not give you an error.
However, after doing this, if you try to Export the VM it will probably still throw an error so out of luck with that, but I'm able to start it and install Windows again with the same "hardware" so it should be activated. I'll try an export again after Windows is installed and working.

Probably the final update... I managed to reinstall Windows however it did not activate and stated that there was no key found on the device so I did end up having to buy a new key for the 2 that threw the errors. The third one (tutorial) still worked and was activated fine.
