I am unable to find a clear answer on which mode to install, STD, DLA, or OEM?

DLA! Unless you have a purchased Windows License that you want to use.
I always use DLA (Digital License Activation) NO Muss, NO Fuss.

Then use Local Account, and turn off MS Updates, once you get the drivers for your hardware.

And, you'll be on your way to a really sweet running OS.

If it's a brand name such as Dell, HP, Toshiba, Lenovo, ACER/Gateway, etc., it probably best to use OEM for an install or reinstall, probably will pick up necessary drivers. Usually STD is for Standard which in Windows does not have Administrative rights. For the usual full rights one wants Administrative rights which at least one is required. I install Local accounts, can always get a Microsoft Account later if needed.

DLA worked very nice for me.
now I need to Disable updates.
