I believe @Edwin 's point was not given in relation to the insider build per se. From reports some users of the release build are getting the watermark. His point substantiates mine. Some complete noobs are finding watermarks on 100% compatible systems and as MS rolls out the watermark to more and more users, there will be more and more noobs in the dark on what to do about it. Hell, these noobs don't even know it's called a watermark. Some don't even know what the registry is.

Just because most users here and on similar boards across the web have enough knowledge to know where to start, we are as guilty as MS is in failing to take into consideration that a large majority of users from generations IX and X are indeed both naive and computer illiterate. Many do not know how to do more than turn their systems on, read their email and check their grandkids and friends out on Facebook but their computers are as important to them as ours are to us, Maybe more so. It's one thing for us to be guilty of not considering this some time when we respond to new users on the board. It's completely another for Microsoft to be guilty of it. Their hardware checker should have been checked, rechecked, and checked again before being implemented and throwing out the watermark.
Hopefully, MS has now realized this and is fixing it.

That's what MS always does with their telemetry, hardware and software, but it is not a one-way thing, it is a closed loop. It is not possible to maintain a billion computers without a closed loop, but even then there will be mistakes and corrections.

And I happen to think that MS does a pretty good job at it, IMHO better than Google maintaining chromebooks and phones.

Google doesn´t maintain phones. The phone vendor (Samsung, etc.) maintains them. There is no other way, since the vendors modify the OS.

I just did a quick Web search, attempting to find incidents of the "requirements not met" showing up on supported systems. In particular, I was looking for systems that received 11 as an "upgrade" through Windows Update, which suggests that their configurations passed the Microsoft checks.

I didn't find any.

I'm not a Microsoft supporter. I "own" a few copies of Windows, but no I have no stock. However, I'd like to know whether knocking them for bewildering users with limited tech knowledge is genuine or innuendo.

We all know that MS uses telemetry to pull the hardware and software information and redirect it to them for evaluation. I think you are right in thinking that MS bewilders users with limited tech knowledge to manipulate them. They now think they need a NEW Computer and go out and spill out hundreds if not more... It's all about $$$$$ Not YOU! The People. The users of Windows, that we are so addicted to that we can't let go... I know. I am one of them BUT!! With Teck Knowledge, thanks to resources like Elevenforum and others. Not saying that I know it all but I have 5 systems running 11 in my household with no watermark. I've already beaten them and will continue to do so.

Google maintains their own Pixel phones, I believe.

But what I meant was more generic, i.e. MS is better at maintaining their devices, than Google or Samsung or anyone else maintain their respective devices, and that's all IMHO of course.

Yeah, that's a more reasonable view of things.

Another example is this very forum that you are reading. It is full of unending problems and without more, you would think that W11 is an abysmally bad OS. But taking a more complete view, W11 is not really all that bad

Don't really think Microsoft is making much money whatsoever on OEM sales of the OS on this hardware. And except for their own surface devices, they aren't selling the hardware, I don't really see how they gain tremendously from people buying new computers.

I visited your link, just now.

I presume that I can't view the feedback hub, as I am not enrolled in the Insider program.

I hope that the issue isn't something silly like the people having disabled the TPM after installing 11.
