It's been around for a long time, Had it for Windows XP and got it down to only 98megs of ram usage haha

Not at all, Fairly normal. Im running at 6.8gb just now personally with some stuff open. i genuinely think i'd need to disable half my OS to get that low..Its just not viable or usable for me. 1.5gb wouldn't even spool CPU xD! Like genuine world breaking records, The min is 4gb for win11...Running it with 1/4 of that.. would be way more detrimental to me than it would help. They're there to be used.

A lot of the stuff in windows 11 is not necessary for the average user and very surprising how much of it is running in the background and running sneaky so you cannot see all of it by normal means.

You would only need to remove what is needed for your liking and not someone else's. The end result is your own personal needs. Honestly you could probably get down to a hair under 2 without going to deep.

Thread kinda got away from the original topic but if anything else you could let me know.

There's also the bad advice of moving stuff because someone else said "they" didn't deem it necessary.

Lots of apps and services rely on other apps and services being there, and if removed or disabled problems may occur. Be aware that in an operating system just because you didn't see a problem today doesn't mean something won't pop up later. This happens all the time.

Unless you are hard up for drive space or have very little RAM (neither of which should apply in today's world) ... leave the OS as is. Yes, there are always tweaks and stuff, but, but understand what it does before doing.

There's been a huge debate on this, but I'm on the side that unused RAM is wasted RAM, especially of you multitask. For me, I'd rather have stuff cached in RAM and ready to go when needed vs. having to wait to use a particular app, file or program to run. This article sums up my feelings...

I've never monitored my RAM usage unless I ran into RAM problems, which I don't and haven't. Admittedly I run 32gig or RAM, so I don't expect issues. That said, even with my Asus Laptop running 4gig, and my Lenovo laptop running 16gig, I never monitored.

I generally only notice due to having msi Afterburner running for games, and it's really just...because 😂 I'm sure it could be done, but could you imagine how hard you'd wanna slap me..if I said look at my specs..and I'm only running one stick of 2gb ram or 1 stick of 4gb😂. It's ofcourse relevant to what you use the pc for naturally. With the 4gb laptop and the 6gb laptop, I'm guessing you're not gonna be running intensive things or games etc, if I had a laptop( average non gaming one) or even a low spec system, I'm not gonna try and run stuff I know I can't. But I absolutely agree man

Thanks for the heads up. I appreciate it. Was thinking why none even @Brink , didn't ever mention about NTLITE. Have 16 gigs of ram on my laptop, usage never has exceeded more than 6.5.

Am cautious not to install NT W11, and run into problems and be posting new threads every day... with almost none members using it.

I wouldn't bother, especially just for the sake of it which is seems to be more than anything, turning off indexing is one thing and that's fine, start stripping windows without knowing what to do and you're bound to run into issues. If you wanna learn via the break it and fix it method, knock yourself out but I wouldn't rely on members from the forum to help fix purposely caused problems either

So true, and I am in complete agreement. I don't intend to turn off indexing of the laptop's drive, the original question posted was about ext. USB HDD.
