Many of you want to run Dev versions of Windows 11 in a virtual machine.

In my opinion, the best vm environment is Hyper-V for this, but that is not available on Home.

I posted this method how to use it on W10 Home a year ago in Tenforums, but tonight I tested the method to see if it still works on W11, and I am glad to say it does.

You can equally use it on W10 as well.

It is actually very easy.

1. Optional but strongly recommended - create image backup of your pc using Macrium Reflect Free or similar in case something goes wrong (it never has for me but just in case).

2. Select the text below and store as text in a file called HyperV.bat and save on desktop (or any location you prefer)

3. Ensure your bios is set to enable virtualisation.

4. Run HyperV.bat with admin rights

5. Follow this tutorial - Create Windows 11 Virtual Machine with Hyper-V.

Code:
pushd "%~dp0"

dir /b %SystemRoot%\servicing\Packages\*Hyper-V*.mum >c:\users\public\hyper-v.txt

for /f %%i in ('findstr /i . c:\users\public\hyper-v.txt 2^>nul') do dism /online /norestart /add-package:"%SystemRoot%\servicing\Packages\%%i"

del c:\users\public\hyper-v.txt

Dism /online /enable-feature /featurename:Microsoft-Hyper-V -All /LimitAccess /ALLpause

@Martin, my post was posted on Friday at 12:37 CET. Your post with that link shows this (bottom right):

I guess that a mod (@Nigel?) saw my post, and edited the link 5 minutes after I posted it. Link was most definitely wrong when I posted.

Hi folks

@Kari
@cereberus

I tried a rediculously bonkers thing but your link works !!

1) on WSL for Linux running DEBIAN with GUI (GNOME desktop) on latest version of W11 (not preview insider edition)

Screenshot 2021-12-20 083638.png

2) Installed a W11 Home version VM on the Linux WSL (iso from UUPDUMP - don't have Windows 11 Home - so I couldn't activate it --) no probs there as I just wanted to use it for a test to see if it would boot and start something like Edge for a test
3) Ran Hyper-V on it and created another VM

I used KVM to create the VM on the WSL "VM" so effectively 2 HyperVisors running cocurrently..

It worked albeit not very fast !! so effectively W11 Host --VM level 1 WSL VM level 2 Windows 11 Host with HYPER-V VM level 3 W10 Pro !!!!

Cheers
Happy Xmas / New year everone -- at least whatever else this year there's loads of things to "play with" on computers currently.

Cheers
