You are going to get varied opinions on this.

One the one hand there is the "if it ain't broke, don't fix it theory". The problem is you don't always know if something is broken.

My suggestion would be to see if you can find that BIOS version on the vendor's web site. Review the release notes. Anything there sound important enough to motivate an update?

@hsehestedt is right (as always) IMO back in the day when it came to bios and other firmware updates the "if it ain't broke, don't fix it theory" might have applied, but these days, these updates sometimes fix security stuff and enable features that we don't even realize.
I've had about 15 bios updates in the last 3 years and have applied them all, but I would never, ever let windows update handle my bios updates. In fact, I do not let windows update handle ANY of my updates. I go straight to the OEM

Man, you guys are killin' me. This discussion made me visit Lenovo to see what updates my favorite laptop has and I am not happy that I did so. That's when I discovered that software and BIOS support just ended for me even though I still have plenty of extended "Premiere Support", but I guess that does not count for software and BIOS updates. They dropped one final "farewell" BIOS update just yesterday (Wednesday) with a mess of vulnerability fixes.

Now I am sad :-(

But seriously, this is a great illustration of what I meant (wish I didn't have to illustrate with MY machine!). Look at the screenshot below. 7 CVEs and more addressed in just this one update. This is why I said that you may have no idea what is being fixed until you check the notes. I guess I need to do some research into these CVEs in the morning. The thing called "Fix DTPM FW WU update fail after TPM lock" sounds especially ominous since I use the TPM for BitLocker and more.

Most of the BIOS/UEFI updates come in the first years.

Check with the manufacturers update application or manually inputting the exact model number/serial number whatever is required and check.
Sometimes they give you notes about things that have been fixed, it is always worth a look.

I update via the Manufacturers App, maybe manually on my Lenovo as sometimes it does not appear in their App.

In Windows updates there are 5 Lenovo system updates out of 9 in the drivers section.

At a guess it came up in Windows updates now because you had not done the update(s) before and it was security related.

A sample of one... actually two systems. My Gigabyte MB's had a flurry of BIOS updates, and they were all related to issues with the firmware for the Raptor Lake Intel processor. Without the updates, the processor was running at the wrong voltage and would fairly quickly degrade and then potentially destroy itself!

The advice to carefully evaluate what the BIOS update is fixing is the right way to go. When I saw this issue, I promptly updated both system's BIOS.

Ah yes, a good example! You researched what the updates actually did and made an informed decision.

Computers can do millions if not trillions of operations a second. But us humans have to carefully make our decisions because we can only make very few of them in a given amount of time.

So my next decision will be to brew a strong cup of coffee and then speak nice to a computer to convince it that it should work for me rather than against me today. Maybe a shiny new SSD will convince it that I am not the bad guy here.
