UPDATE: I just noticed there is a similar thread over at Windows News. Mods can move or delete this if they wish.

As previously announced by Intel they're extending the warranty for 13th/14th generation processors from 3 to 5 years.

So faulty cpus still need to be returned first before a replacement will be sent out? What about people that need to work? I am self employed and being without my pc for a few weeks is unacceptable. I also contacted the shop I purchased the cpu from (PB Tech in New Zealand) and they are not really interested in helping at all.

I wonder how common cross-shipping a replacement for a defective component is? (I've done it in the past. The company is given a credit card number, and they ship the replacement immediately. They only charge the card if the defective part isn't returned within a specified time.)

I suspect that it's unusual.

In the "let them eat cake!" line, and to state the obvious, it's handy to have a spare PC if your livelihood depends on having a working machine. I'm sorry that you lack a spare.

I have other computers but not powerful enough for my rendering work and therefore the purchase of a new computer. In the end the consumer always suffers.
