OS
Windows 11 Pro 24H2
Win 11 (24H2) installed; old-ish Lenovo ThinkCentre M82... due to TPM 1.2, upgraded from Win 10 using RUFUS method.
"Off-line account" to minimize not desired windows/microsoft... "stuff' Also, fwiw, using "Classic Shell"
A few seconds after boot, Screenshot 2025-06-07 131615.webp
Googled the issue, led to a purportedly Wiki-associated group that offered free download for 'repair'... ended up with a load of crapware designed to implement at startup... cleaned up the mess with Piriform Ccleaner
Any ideas??
thanks,
John

🔍 What is center.exe on Lenovo systems?
On Lenovo ThinkCentre PCs, center.exe is typically part of Lenovo's outdated system management software, most likely:

Lenovo ThinkVantage System Update, or

Lenovo Care, or

A custom OEM utility used for network diagnostics or support access.

Some older versions of this software were ported from legacy code originally built for Windows 9x/ME, and they still try to call obsolete DLLs like ipcfgdll.dll — which modern versions of Windows (Vista onwards) simply don’t include.

⚠️ Why you're getting the ipcfgdll.dll not found error
center.exe is trying to launch a legacy diagnostic or GUI tool that was originally written for Windows 98/ME.

ipcfgdll.dll was used by winipcfg.exe, now replaced with ipconfig.

✅ What to Do About It
1. Uninstall Lenovo Care / ThinkVantage
Go to:

Control Panel → Programs → Uninstall a Program

Look for anything named:

Lenovo Care

Lenovo ThinkVantage

Lenovo System Update (if very old)

Uninstall it. It's obsolete and unnecessary on modern Windows.

Not so fast, AI chat thingy. Windows NT always had ipconfig. WinIPCfg was created for the consumer line of Windows. It went away because that line of Windows went away.

Not relevant to the problem at hand of course, but the chat thingy is misleading. :)

I never said older Windows did not have ipconfig! Anyway, you are not really helping the OP ;-)

You didn't, but your AI did say that winipcfg replaced ipconfig.

winipcfg was introduced during the good old days of Windows based DOS OSes like 95, 98, and ME.
ipconfig dates back to Windows 2000.

Hmm... "Lenovo": googled "center.exe": first results were associations with ASUSTek wifi cards.
Windows Device Manager reports all drivers "up-to-date".
Unistalled drivers/software (and ccleaner registry cleaner/reboot)
ASUS does not offer Driver package for Win 11 (Win10 64 only)
RTL 8188CE chip, ASUSTEK IC: 3568A-PCEN-10
re-installed driver pkg. no more alerts!
Thanks for the time folks,
John
