I had W11 on my old unsupported Toshiba laptop (4th gen) for testing purposes right up until the delete the apparaiseres.dll cr%p and every WU failed on 8% (the checking phase no doubt). The writing was on the wall before that though as with each progressive build it was getting slower and slower.

It's now back on 10 where it squarely belongs and back to being a usable machine.

1. Is it worth the hassle.
2. If I run into any problems will I know how to solve my problem.
3. If MS does stop unsupported devices from getting updates how much trouble will it be to go back to Win 10.
Win 10 is a great OS and still has a few more years of support. Just because one can do something doesn't mean they should. The choice is up to you. If you decide to upgrade to Win 11, we will try to help if you do run into any problems.

System Two in 'My Computers' below is 12 years old and has a 1st gen Intel processor. That runs Windows 11 fine. But it is a test machine that I'm prepared to wipe and reinstall Win10 as required. While an unsupported device can run Windows 11 and (so far) will get all the latest updates, there's no guarantee that will always be the case.

If this is your main machine, then I'd stick to only running a supported OS, and W10 is supported until October 2025. That's what I am doing on all my other machines.

    fully 'Windows 11 ready' laptop. Windows 10 C: partition migrated from my old unsupported 'main machine' then upgraded to 11. A test migration ran Insider builds for 2 months. When 11 was released on 5th October 2021 it was re-imaged back to 10 and was offered the upgrade in Windows Update on 20th October. Windows Update offered the 22H2 Feature Update on 20th September 2022. It got the 23H2 Feature Update on 4th November 2023 through Windows Update, 24H2 on 3rd October 2024 through Windows Update by setting the Target Release Version for 24H2, and 25H2 on 30th September 2025 through Windows Update by setting the Target Release Version for 25H2.

    UPDATE - 11 April 2026: due to mechanical deterioration this PC has been retired from active duty. The OS with all software and files has been migrated to my System Seven in 'Other systems' to carry on as my general purpose 'main machine'.

Yes, both of my computers are less than a year old.
Since MS doesn't support your computer for W 11, I would consider remaining on W 10.

I would suggest staying on Win 10 with a machine of that age, you are not missing out on very much at all. The guys have posted guides if you want to go ahead and try 11, you can always role back to win 10 for up to 10 days longer with a DISM command

That depends on you. Do you feel confident in doing the upgrade. If you do upgrade do you feel confident in your ability of going back to Windows 10 if the need arises? We can offer help but only you can decide how confident you feel about upgrading.

It's easy enough to install Windows 11 on unsupported hardware with one of the methods on here (I used the rufus method which was quick and easy) - I have it on a very old netbook. But it's probably best to use Windows 10 for the longer term usage. You just download the Windows 11 ISO and Rufus 3.16 beta and use rufus to make the bootable usb stick (removes the tpm and other requirements).

What you could do - if curiosity is making you wonder, is install Windows 11 and play with it and see how you find it - having done a system image first and backed up files, so you can get back to where you were again easily on Windows 10.

It will work fine, but as others say, there is no certainty how long it will work on officially unsupported hardware. At the moment unsupported computers get the updates and run fine. There is a lot to like about Windows 11 but personally I prefer 10.

If you really want to safely play with W11 on a daily machine for some reason just buy a $25 SSD. That’s a small price for not worrying about reverting back to W10 or losing data etc etc

That depends on you. Do you feel confident in doing the upgrade. If you do upgrade do you feel confident in your ability of going back to Windows 10 if the need arises? We can offer help but only you can decide how confident you feel about upgrading.

I think with the help of a youtube tutorial I can upgrade the windows . But it is important for me to have this laptop so it would be difficult if I have problems with the install. So I tend to continue to have w11 . Furthermore , in 2 years I hope to buy a new device, which will have of course w11

That's a good idea but as I said I want to buy something new in the future so I don't want to spend money for this old pc.....

Putting Windows 11 on an old device without upgrading to an SSD is a waste of time.

I have Windows 11 on my Main "Incompatible" machine, and ready for wipe the SSD and reinstall 10 if MS disabled the updates on unsupported machines
