Is there a way to tell tell the tv to turn off while the pc stays running?

I have a pc I'm using as a streaming box and a server, and I'd like it to stay running but be able to turn off the tv using the wireless keyboard/touchpad I use to control it. Is this possible?

If the TV has a sleep timer you can set it to one hour or 30 minutes using the remote control, whatever it is available from the settings. Many TVs have this feature just in case you fall asleep when watching late in the night. Remember to cancel the timer for normal watching. It wouldn't be nice for the TV to suddenly switch off in the middle of some movie.

No it's not. You'd need some sort of IR device. The computer doesn't communicate with the TV other than the video port. Unless your keyboard is capable of remote controlling devices with an IR receiver. I'm not aware of any keyboard that can, but I don't know for sure. Logitech used to make Harmony remote and hub that you can do this with an app on your mobile device. But sadly they've discontinued creating that product and only are supporting legacy products till End of Life. You can probably still buy them off Amazon or Ebay. But beyond that or use your remote control to just turn the TV Off when you're done. Or physically turn it off at the TV power button.

I seem to remember that the reviews of "The Clapper" claimed it wasn't very... accurate.
"Other" sounds would set it off, when NOT intended.

But, I can't honestly say, I've ever owned or tried one of these, so I really don't know... personally.

By the same token... I'd bet there are devices like this, that DO work flawlessly.
Something like an "outlet" with a IR remote or similar?

I would avoid the Clapper or any other device that suddenly turns off or on the TV, because it is the same as a black out from the Electricity company. What if you damage the power supply? Just use the sleep timer to switch off the TV after a defined time interval. Or if you are still in the room, just switch off the TV before leaving. For remote controlling your computer the TV may stay off, you don't need it on. I do that with my main computer (see 2nd system specs) that I have connected to an old Sony 19" LCD TV "temporarily" until I would buy a proper monitor, but in Greece we say "nothing is more permanent than the temporarily". I am still using it.

I'm Surprised the Clapper is still available. I put that in my worthless tech category. I use something like these to control 3 lamps in my house. with one remote I can control 3 lamps. I forget what company I went with. I definitley wouldn't use them on a TV. Amazon.com : remote control switch power outlet

Actually it should be possible if you PC and TV both support HDMI-CEC. Might take a look at Pulse Eight adaptors

If you want to leave the computer processing in the background and you don't need to display the contents, you could set the monitor to sleep in 5 minutes or less. Without an active signal the TV will eventually turn off.

Actually no it doesn't hurt anything at all although it is like a power outage without the enormous over zap "that can melt a washer/ dry or refrigerator/.. outages bring if there was a real power outage
Turning it back on with clapper does not restore the prior state it only gives the tv or smart tv power again.

You'll still have to turn it on with remote or manual power button so there is no chance of burn in if there were you'd have the same risk just turning it off and on as normal usage with/ remote or manual button.
Or just switching hdmi sources to a dvd player/...

we do have smart plugs that you can just yell at google to turn off, but this is a big plasma tv and they have made it clear that they are very not happy with having it plugged into them

If you set the display to sleep after 1 minute, the TV will have no signal. Most TVs turn off after a while without any input signal. Also most monitors switch off without any signal.
