iTunes not being detected as activity, device falls asleep.

So I recently updated from Windows 10 to Windows 11 using the update process. Still resolving little issues. Most recent is power. sfc /scannow is clean.

In windows 10 I could start itunes and play music for hours, no issues. (iTunes V12.13.0.9 which is latest)

In windows 11 after 20 minutes the machine goes to sleep, which is how the power options are set for plugged in, no activity. Apparently it does not detect iTunes as activity.

Any possible resolutions other than stop using iTunes or Windows 11?

The people here are a LOT smarter than I, but I'm wondering if there's an app for this purpose. To trick the system to think there's constant activity?

Actually, if you have some sort of video you could play in VLC in a loop and turn off the audio and kinda tuck it away, I believe the PC won't go to sleep as long as it keeps playing. Maybe even just an audio file.

Thanks I did find an app from Major Geeks. Coffee, but have not installed.

I ran another test and realized the system was basically doing what it want to. I had set the sleep time to twenty minutes but the system was using 30. This has to be a side effect of the update.

I went into the two power plans and restored all the defaults, then into advance and reset those defaults. Then set it the way I want it. I hope the system starts to follow the settings I set. Otherwise I need how to learn how to do a more complete power plan reset.

Will keep the thread up to date.

Well resetting the power plans failed to fix. I did a general search and this seems to be a known problem. No real answer. iTunes worked in 7, work in 10 and doesn't work in 11. This is the same machine as was used for 10 and all I did was an upgrade.

I love it when I get those flashes from MS asking if I would recommend their products. I guess I'll just set sleep to never when I want my music to run without me using my computer.

Must also check over the powercfg commands.

If you want an app, just use PowerToys. It has “awake” feature included as well as many other useful features.

If you don’t want an app, there could be other resolutions that I can dig out of my notes for you in a little while. - until then, Google or loom here for the “unattended sleep timeout reg”, run it, then in power options you’ll see it as editable. It will be 2 min by default. Set it to 0 to disable it.
