Solved just updated to windows 11 and have update 23h2 when will i get 24h2 or 25h2

Quite frankly, other than checking Windows Update every day, that's what I've always done. I get updates when they come to me.

i followed this and now got the update

From another thread. Worked for me.

on the registry go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\Windowsupdate (Create a new key Windowsupdate if it does not exist)

On Windowsupdate
create new string value with a name ProductVersion, set the value to Windows 11
create another string value with the name TargetReleaseVersionInfo, set the value to 24H2.
create a DWORD with a name TargetReleaseVersion set the value to 1.

After all that go to ahead and check for the update it should work. I deleted all of this after the receiving the update just to be safe.

will this way not lose data i need to know before I do it incase anything goes wrong

Just installed Windows 11 25H2, everything seems to work just fine.

@alexhob123 You came here and asked for help. You have been told how to do the upgrade, which will not lose anything, so go ahead a do it.

Always make a back up first, preferably by cloning the disk that Windows 11 is on. Then once you are safely on 25H2 you can delete the back up, if you want.

I can not add anything to what you have already been told about how to manually upgrade your computer. Since you just upgraded to Windows 11-23h2 today, possibly you will be offered 24h2 by windows update at some point soon. No one here can tell you if or when that might be. I do know that Windows update will not offer the 25h2 enablement package until a machine has 24h2 installed.

dont . 23h2 would not have been offered unless they dont have a compatible processor for 24h2.

i upgraded to windows 11 yesterday not today so i'm going to give it a few days and see if the update appears or not

Ok I recently bought a used laptop that also upgraded itself to 23H2 from Windows 10, which surprised me. It is definitely able to run Windows 11. Maybe something has changed recently? I believe you have until November 11th before 23H2 stops being supported, so there is still time for the update to come. I was impatient and just clean installed 25H2 as it was a "new to me" computer. It had the original factory install from HP with all the original "bloatware" so maybe there is something in that that made a difference.

It's been mentioned a few times, but do you have a usb external drive so you can make a system image of your system as it is now, and then if anything goes wrong, you can get back to where you started. If not, do you have a full copy of all your files on external media and a list of installed programs somewhere. This is really important. At least if you have your files backed up somewhere, you can do a clean install. (although that can be time consuming and tedious and means reinstalling all programs again).

So plan a) is to wait. You should have a plan b) in case you get to 11th November and it still hasn't automatically upgraded.

Also suggest you run sfc/scannow and check there are no corruptions in your current system.

Type cmd in search, select "run as administrator", type sfc/scannow - then wait for the results while it scans.

Better be safe than sorry. Backup your data. Nothing should not be wiped, but with every major upgrade there is a small risk something can go wrong.
