Win Update KB4023057 Update Health Tools - Windows Update Service components

  • Staff

 Microsoft Support:

Summary

Microsoft Update Health Tools is offered to devices through Windows Update as update KB4023057. This update is applicable for both Windows consumer and commercial devices, with a slightly different purpose and functionality.
  • On Windows consumer devices, this update helps remediate smooth functioning of Windows Update.
  • For commercial devices, this update is recommended for Windows Update for Business (WUfB) Deployment Service for managing Feature and Quality Updates.
The Microsoft Update Health Tools is required for Expediting security updates through Microsoft Intune and Microsoft Graph.

This update should automatically install if your device is connected to Windows Updates services and allows automatic updates. If your device isn't regularly receiving quality updates, because of low disk space or have low activity, this may prevent the device from installing the Update Health Tools. If you currently don't have the client installed, you can then try triggering a normal Windows Update scan. Or, you can manually download and install Update Health Tools from the Microsoft Download Center.

To verify that Update Health Tools has successfully installed, do the following:
  • Look for the installation files at this location (C:\Program Files\Microsoft Update Health Tools).

    Update Health Tolls files
  • Commercial customers can check whether the Microsoft Update Health service is running on the device.

    Update Health Tools service
You might have to allow the following endpoints if they are blocked in the device's firewall settings, or an upstream firewall:
  • *.blob.core.windows.net port 443
  • deploymentscheduler.microsoft.com port 443
  • Devicelistenerprod.microsoft.com port 443
If your tenant is in the EU region:
  • devicelistenerprod.eudb.microsoft.com port 443
Important: If your device is out of support, it is no longer receiving security updates from Microsoft and may become more vulnerable to security risks and viruses. Therefore, we strongly recommend that you update to the latest version of Windows. Each version of Windows is supported for 18 months. After support ends, you must update to a newer version of Windows to continue receiving Windows updates and security fixes. To learn more about the Windows lifecycle, see Windows 10 lifecycle fact sheet and the Windows 11 lifecycle fact sheet.

Ummm mine doesn't look like this but WU says it was successfully installed? What is going on here?

As I've posted before, I have no idea why I've never had neither the Microsoft Update Health Tools folder nor the updates. 🤷‍♂️

Yes that's nice to know but I am really looking for an answer as to why this is not what I am seeing as per the MS Release Notes.
Thank you for your contribution.

Sorry for my ignorance in such matters... but, is the Update Stack Package the same thing as Update Health Tools?

I just got the latest Stack Package via Windows Update...

It actually does install using the Windows File except the downloaded file is dated February 17, 2023 which contains v5.0.69.0 from December 2022 which can be verified in C:\Program Files\Microsoft Update Health Tools folder and when you look for Microsoft Update Health Tools in
Control Panel > Programs and Features

You can easily see if it installs or not by uninstalling using Control Panel > Programs and Features and then install using the downloaded file and check Control Panel > Programs and Features

So until they fix the download link, we will never see v5.0.70.0 which consists of the April 3, 2023 dated files. Windows Update seems to only show v5.0.70.0 for some people and v5.0.69.0 for others. Microsoft Updated Catalog when searching for KB4023057 seems to only show versions even older than v5.0.69.0 with the latest from May 2021.
I actually uninstalled mines on July 23, 2023 as the manual install will only do v5.0.69.0 but for a required component, it still never reinstalled itself as of December 4, 2023 which is 4 months and 11 days as Control Panel > Program and Features does not show it. So I used the manual install on December 4, 2023 to install v5.0.69.0 again and will see if it actually gets updated over time. Would have been a lot easier if they kept the manual updated version up to date.

May I ask a question
Can you smoothly update your device without the update health tools?
Did you get any problem at updating?
I worry about that because I accidently unistall it last week.
Thanks
