Scott, what is your build? If you are on an insider build, that would be the problem. KB5017321 will bring 22621.382 up to 22621.521.

EDIT: Try downloading the update from the Update Catalog manually.

Go to this page:


Make sure to select KB501731 for x64 (NOT ARM64). After downloading, right-click, choose properties, then check the box to "Unblock". You can then run the update manually. If it still fails, at least it may give you a better error message.

WU update kept failing but downloading MSU worked. Now on 22621.521 RTM i.e. not an Insider version.

One blinking issue - NO FE TABS!

Had to use vivetool to reenable!

I did let WU get it - it found it ok but kept failing to install.
Then I used MSU and it installed ok but then WU decided to reinstall it anyway.
Got there though in the end.

Just tidying up now getting rid of Windows.old.

SFC picked up some errors but fixed them - ok now.

This has been hard work and that is from somebody with a (I humbly believe) reasonable skill level!

I got all the same that you did. All the WTFs and exactly the sequence. FE tabs they said would be in a couple of weeks with one of their "Moments" updates. Sounds like an update from the Hallmark Channel. A moment? That's 90 seconds, I believe. OED says so, too.

I did let WU get it - it found it ok but kept failing to install.
Then I used MSU and it installed ok but then WU decided to reinstall it anyway.
Got there though in the end.

Just tidying up now getting rid of Windows.old.

SFC picked up some errors but fixed them - ok now.

This has been hard work and that is from somebody with a (I humbly believe) reasonable skill level!

Troubles using the official MCT ISO.
The update with W.U. worked fine on one machine, but when I used the official ISO on a second box it went up to 22621.382 with no problems, but the subsequent check for update just went into a loop trying to download and install this cumulative update over and over.
I could not get out from this loop.
I remember this bug happening before after updating with ISO, looks like the bug is now back. 😜
I will have to restore 22000.978 and just do the whole update to 22621.521 with W.U. 😜😜

I haven't gotten the 22H2 update through WU. I downloaded the standalone and tried to update manually. Pop up says the update isn't applicable for my computer. I am on the newest 21H2 build of 2000.1042. I tried SFC and Dism. No change

Logs error 0x800f0806 on every retry.

I had the same issue, fixed it with:

Dism.exe /Online /Cleanup-Image /StartComponentCleanup /ResetBase
