Windows 11 Pro v 23H2 (Build 22631.3527)
The update dowloads OK (?); however fails to update -

You are 30% complete
--> Restart
--> 36% Complete
--> Restart
--> 96% Complete
--> Restart
--> 37% Complete
--> Restart
--> 94% Complete
--> Somerthing did't go as planned, no need to worry - undoing changes
--> Restart
-- > System boots back to Build(22671.521)

Does anyone have any suggestions as to why this is happening?

First you say you are on (22671.521) which is an insider preview build. I am assuming you want to stay on the insider ring. Read this article How to install Windows 11 Insider preview on unsupported devices
Now that 22H2 is officially available, it appears to me that you will have to switch to the Dev build.
Before attempting anything make sure you have a backup of your current installation.

This is the build for GA Windows 11 2022 Update,.

Did a 'Repair Install' using the build .382 ISO (which, actually, installs build .521 !??!).

Issue same as before.

I got the same problem. I'm on Windows 11 Pro x64 22H2 build 22621.521 and the update fails to install. It reboots 3 or 4 times. Update installation reaches 96% and then it starts reverting. Again taking 3 or 4 restarts to revert everything.

I tried manually downloading and installing the update from MS Update Catalog, but same error.
I'm running under the built-in Administrator account, with ZoneAlarm Free firewall v. 15.8.211.19229 and Malwarebytes Premium v. 4.5.14.210

I already tried:
  • Running the Windows Update troubleshooter
  • Running "DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth"
  • Running "sfc /scannow"

Unfortunately, that did not fix this problem for me. It still restarts 3 times, update installation reaches 96%, then it starts reverting everything with multiple reboots.

Update: Uninstalling ZoneAlarm free firewall did NOT solve the issue.
Update: Uninstalling Malwarebytes Premium most likely solved this issue for me. (Needs verification)

Update 2: I confirmed Malwarebytes being the culprit in my case. A second PC had the same issue and when I uninstalled Malwarebytes Premium first the issue was solved.

Similar problem with this update - the first that I can remember having so many problems with in the past 15 years. I've tried a myriad of workarounds but I can't get it installed. No antivirus software installed on my system, apart from Windows Defender.

The update is found, downloaded, installation starts, reaches 100% and then silently fails - Windows Update just goes to the 'green tick - everything's updated' screen. When one tries to once again search for updates, an error pops up about this update:

1664737619440.png

Each time,the error code is different, cycling between:

0x80070002
0x800f0988
0x80248007

which all relate to corrupt system files/WU components.. yet everything's up to snuff, checked with DISM, sfc, multiple WU catalog resets...

Weird.

I had the same problem with failure to install KB5017389 and followed the advise from Porthos in the Malwarebytes Forum:
"For you and other readers....
If/when Malwarebytes is an issue, It does not have to be uninstalled just properly disabled.
First open Malwarebytes and turn off start with Windows.
Restart the computer and do the update again."
The strange thing about this is that last months update KB installed OK on my 3 computers without disabling Malwarebytes, while the two previous month's updates required disabling all 4 of the Malwarebytes Protections, or simply setting it to not start with Windows and rebooting as Porthos recommended.
