Win Update KB5027397 Enablement Package for Windows 11 version 23H2 Feature Update

  • Staff

 Microsoft Support:

Summary

Windows 11, versions 22H2 and 23H2 share a common core operating system with an identical set of system files. Therefore, the new features in Windows 11, version 23H2 are included in the latest monthly quality update for Windows 11, version 22H2 but are in an inactive and dormant state. These new features will remain dormant until they are turned on through the “enablement package,” a small, quick-to-install “master switch” that activates the Windows 11, version 23H2 features.

The enablement package is a great option for installing a scoped feature update like Windows 11, version 23H2 as it enables an update from version 22H2 to version 23H2 with a single restart, reducing update downtime. This enables devices to take advantage of new features now. For version 22H2 devices that receive updates directly from Windows Update, devices automatically get the enablement package by installing the feature update to Windows 11, version 23H2.

I read here that widgets are getting new customization in 23h2. Do I need to do anything to enable this widget update?

Supposedly it's going to be possible to turn off the news in widgets which would make it vastly more useful for me (aside from just showing the weather on the taskbar)

I'm on 23H2 and my Widgets do not have the option you mentioned and look a bit different than the pic in your link. Maybe it just hasn't rolled out yet. ;-)

Or Microsoft just left the bug in 23h3... They already fixed this. This totally proves it's not on AMD, when somebody messes with windows boot process.

AMD Adrenaline and Nvidia Geforce Experience, occasionally have problems.
I doubt either one is very high on Microsoft's priority list.

I've always used Nvidia vid cards.
I "never" install Geforce Experience. Consequently, I don't have any problems with Nvidia drivers.

If I had an AMD vid card I wouldn't install AMD Adrenaline either.

If anyone wants to re-install their vid card drivers without that "helper software", here's how...

DDU Instructions - Nvidia
1. Get this program, here: Display Driver Uninstaller (DDU) | Wagnardsoft ...get the latest version, and save it to your desktop.
2. Get the DCH/Game Ready vid card driver here, use the Manual Search: Advanced Driver Search | NVIDIA ...save this to your desktop.
Unhook the internet completely.
3. Reboot into Safe Mode and run DDU (Display Driver Uninstaller) choose the "Highly Recommend Option", and just do what it tells you.
4. After it's done, reboot to normal mode, then just double click the Nvidia driver to install.
[See pics below]. If it want's to reboot, let it.
Rehook the internet.

Still assembled, still runs. Haven't turned it on for 13 years?
@Ghot

Wouldn't though it make it harder to update video drivers without using Geforce Experience? I might give it a shot on Next Nvidia Driver Update for first time running without Geforce Experience on Desktop I7 10700 build, and Maybe Gaming Laptop as well

Otherwise 23H2 isn't giving me too many issues at all that i can tell, system seems to be running just fine, minus a few issues with a couple games

Or Microsoft just left the bug in 23h3... They already fixed this. This totally proves it's not on AMD, when somebody messes with windows boot process.

Perhaps. If it is 23H2, then there should be a lot of folks at AMD forums complaining about it by now.

DDU Instructions - AMD

I take it a step further and remove a lot of the other stuff, too, via NVCleanStall.

Using that, it forces a clean install, and I don't (have to) worry about using DDU.

@Ghot

Wouldn't though it make it harder to update video drivers without using Geforce Experience? I might give it a shot on Next Nvidia Driver Update for first time running without Geforce Experience on Desktop I7 10700 build, and Maybe Gaming Laptop as well

No. You just manually install it every time you need to. It takes a few minutes is all, and if you judiciously close apps before starting the install, most times you don't even need to reboot.

As I noted above, I do it differently from Ghot, and there are plenty of ways to skin a cat, so to speak - but even just a manual install following his instructions above is perfectly fine. It's not like nVidia puts out drivers every day so that this becomes a chore. :D

Otherwise 23H2 isn't giving me too many issues at all that i can tell, system seems to be running just fine, minus a few issues with a couple games

I've always installed vid card drivers manually.
Since Windows 10 and 11 and Microsoft's desire to supply the vid card drivers as well... I now install vid card drivers with the internet disconnected.

I've blocked drivers from being included with Windows Updates, but this doesn't stop MS from installing a vid card driver "after" you remove the one that's installed. It seems they silently install a vid card driver, even if you're not checking for Windows updates.

The guide(s) above are the best way I've found to update vid card drivers.

That's pretty good, except I need the fan curves in my system when the weather turns really hot in here... It's useless for me if I can't tune anything, if it's just reset each reboot. I just can't understand why they need to mess up with something it works (Like the shut down / reboot part)...

This is why Adrenaline resets each time. It's clear there is something wrong, that was patched before in 22H2 and now 23H3 reintroduces, because nobody keeps track of fixes done to the OS...

Anyway... back into the field so they notice this...

Use MSI Afterburner instead.
Use EVGA Precision X1 for EVGA Nvidia cards.

Both will allow adjusting vid card fan curves and more.
Neither have anything to do with updating drivers.

Only for EVGA vid cards

I've thought on AfterBurner, but here is the catch: I don't really want another app running in the background. Adrenaline does the job pretty decently without using any more RAM. I mean, it's a valid and nice suggestion, but this is my catch on this... -_-;

Just amazing...
23H2 reintroduces the AMD Adrenaline bug where settings are reset each time you reboot the system.
WHY?????
Ugh...
Or, Adrenaline is not properly fixed when he OS version number changes?

I bet the AMD forums are lighting up about this right about now....
Not according to this > official AMD site. Not under "Graphic Cards", not under "Drivers & Software" ;-)

You have a specific AMD site in mind?

Anyway, I would ask the OP what specific settings they are talking about cause I don't have that issue. I don't use a ton of custom setting but the settings I use stick upon reboot. My OS version is shown under my Avatar. Also just rebooted the system as a test. No issues here.

If I had an AMD vid card I wouldn't install AMD Adrenaline either.
That where we differ as I use, and have always used AMD Adrenalin software, and before Adrenalin, their Catalyst package. While nothing ever perfect overall I never had a reason not to use the software suite. Can't speak on NVidia as I've never used their cards.

And no this isn't about which is or isn't better so let's not go there. I'm simply saying I've never used an NVIdia GPU which means I can't speak on their driver/software package.

What I meant was

If he is right and Windows 23H2 broke Adrenaline - Then the site should be overflowing with bug reports about it (IOW, a subtle hint to the OP to check the AMD forums and if it really was a Windows issue a lot more people would be reporting it, so another subtle hint to check his own system again).

Trust me, I'm one to agree, but I've also been reminded here (sometimes rather angrily) that "just because you don't have issues, doesn't mean others don't!", especially when I remind people that sometimes Windows ends up being the proverbial "messenger shot" :-)

At any rate, I get your point (y)
