Voice Access​

  • New! This update adds commands to correct words that voice access fails to recognize. You can say “correct [text]” to correct specific text. Use “correct that” to correct text you last dictated. The correction window appears with a list of words labelled with numbers. You can say “click [number]” to select any word from the list. If you choose a word from the window, that word replaces the text you want to correct. You can also say “spell that” or “spell out” to dictate the correct spelling of text. You get suggestions as you spell out the text. All the words and phrases that you spell are added to the Windows dictionary. They will appear as suggestions when you try to spell the text again.
  • New! Voice access now works right when you start your PC. You can turn on voice access from the accessibility flyout box on the Lock screen. To turn it on automatically, go to Settings > Accessibility > Speech. Important This issue is a reporting issue only and does not affect drive encryption or the reporting of other issues on the device, including other BitLocker issues.		To mitigate this issue in Microsoft Intune, you can set the “Enforce drive encryption type on operating system drives” or "Enforce drive encryption on fixed drives" policies to not configured.

If you want to remove the LCU

To remove the LCU after installing the combined SSU and LCU package, use the DISM/Remove-Package command line option with the LCU package name as the argument. You an find the package name by using this command: DISM /online /get-packages.

Running Windows Update Standalone Installer (wusa.exe) with the /uninstall switch on the combined package will not work because the combined package contains the SSU. You cannot remove the SSU from the system after installation.

I don't know if I broke something or it's due to the latest update...
but "search" in File Explorer is lightning fast. Almost instantaneous. But it doesn't find anything.


Maybe I did change something... I went back to a Sept 12th backup, and File Explorer search is much slower.... but it finds what I search for.


So I'm re-doing Windows Updates right now.


So, I updated to 22621.2428 and File Explorer search still work like it used to.
Then I made a quick backup...
Now, I'm doing KB5031455


I seem to remember reading something about speeding up search.
I must have broken something when playing with it. It did speed it up... it just didn't find anything, anymore. LOL




Must get into the Halloween spirit...




Well... I'm having issues with KB5031455.
It installs successfully, but If I click on This PC or File Explorer (Taskbar)... Explorer crashes.

Before I restored back to Sept 12th and redid the updates... File Explorer search was broken.

Thanks for reporting back. Maybe it has something to do with the Onedrive folder which is shared with Gallery. When loading the pictures (more than 10k+) I see that explorer.exe cannot keep up with amount of files. Suddenly CPU-usage increases to almost 50% , and then...pooof...CRASH... several reports have been send to MS. Hopfully the cause will be found by them.

Well Windows first blamed it on TranslucentTB. So I disabled it, and even uninstalled it. No help.
Then I figured it might be a Winaero Tweak, so I reset all those to defaults. No help.

So now I'm left with a 22621.2506 with a broken File Explorer search, or a 22621.2428 that when updated... breaks Explorer.

I think I might take screen shots of all the search settings on .2428, then restore the .2506 backup and see if that will fix search.
I already tried SFC and DISM... restore health on the .2506 version.


But first, some errands. :-)

As you know, I don't use any tweaks. File Explorer search works fine for me when updated to 22621.2506. It's fast, and gets results for any drive I search. Here it is searching a network drive (so no indexing to help it).

After the update to 2506, my FE Search still works, but is slow as molasses. Took it over three minutes to find 17 instances of WordPad.exe. Fifteen of those are in WinSxS, and the last two it found are in PFiles and PFiles(x86). Interestingly,on this same PC, Start Menu Search can't find WordPad at all. Still.

As mentioned above... a while back I played around with some "recommended" search settings, which seem to have broken File Explorer search. Other than FE search the .2506 backup works fine.
But, when I update the .2428 backup to .2506 ...that's when ThisPC and FE cause Explorer to crash.

So, since the only problem with the .2506 backup is the FE search... I assume I broke something in the various search settings.


So after I finish my errands... I'll take the screenshots I mentioned, of search's settings on .2428 ...then restore to .2506, and apply those settings in the hope it will fix the problem with FE search.

Well... I'm back on 22621.2506 and FE Search is working again.
I have no idea why, but adding my storage drives to this list (to speed up FE Search)... is what broke FE Search...

The really weird part is that list says "these folder will be excluded from Search. And I notice C:\ is on that list.
But if I want to search for something ON C:\, I can't add any storage drives to that list.
If I do... then it ONLY searches the storage drives.

OK... now that FE search is fixed... time to make a new backup. :-)
